I largely agree, which is why I use alternatives to most common software. From their list:
1. Foxit Reader
2. Don't use much else from them.
3. Windiz
4. Real Alternative
5. Doesn't cause me much grief.
6. Trillian Astra for messenger.
7. AVG, though it's gone downhill in the last year or two...might be time to find something else.
8. Always do a fresh install myself.
9. Gmail, Thunderbird.
10. Seldom have much trouble with it, but since Adobe bought Macromedia I'd use an alternative if I could find it.
For me the biggies are mostly MS issues. I don't mind most of Office (about the 2002/3 version). XP Pro is usable now, as long as you micromanage the hell out of it. Pretty much everything else is a constant headache to me however, so I avoid them like the plague.
I hate anything proprietary for common uses, anything that overcharges, anything that makes it a pain to manage preferences, anything that runs in the background, installs to startup, most things that use the taskbar, anything that runs without being asked to, or tries to handle more than it's intended to. Unfortunately most of those seem to be the default for the industry.
