So is this game on physical media or only digital download? My internet is a sucky 7.5Mbps so I'd like to do some offline gaming.

Well, those are two separate issues. Just start the download before you go to bed.
Shit, I've got 15mbit and it downloaded in about an hour.

As for online/offline gaming, its Steam, and Steam works offline. And you dont have to play MP but at 7.5mbit you would be just fine.

On anandtech, where people brag about their 300 megabit connections. And their supermodel wives. And their M3's.

Ah yes, how foolish of me. You're right, if you don't have a gigabit Internet connection I will point and laugh.

It's worth $20 for sure, but I found it way too easy. I shouldn't have played it on Normal. I guess I figured it would let me run through it again on a harder difficulty after I beat it but it seems they want you to just buy maps to dungeons and run them over and over. I suppose I could start a whole new character but I don't know if I will.

No boss was ever a challenge or required any thought at all. All I had to do the entire fight was hold the left mouse button down and follow him around, many times didn't even have to heal as my passives/items would keep me full health most of the time.

I played a Berzerker and beat it at lvl 45.

I think you rushed through the game too fast. I could tell from your level that you skipped a ton of fun quests and areas just to get through the game. I beat the game at lvl 54 doing a full clear of everything.

I played the demo for an hour or two this afternoon -- lvl'ed an outlander to 9 or 10 -- and generally enjoyed the experience. I didn't spend too many of my stat/skill points -- as I didn't yet to dig too deep into the mechanics before being sure I was going to play it -- but it was still enjoyable to play.

My biggest problem with the game is that I don't really care for the art style of the game. Although I have already seen some very beautiful environments/effects, the story-book, high-pastel style isn't my cup of tea.

From perusing some reviews and giving it a cursory overview in-game, I get the impression that the stat/skill decisions are more complex in TL2 than D3; is this correct?

I'm still not sure whether I'm going to stick with D3 or shift to TL2 but any additional information or thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,

I can't emphasize this enough, don't conserve your skill points. If you don't rush through the game and play it through while doing all the quests and killing all the named mobs, you'll have plenty of extra skill points. Fame gives you extra skill points and killing named mobs/doing quests gives you fame. By the time I had beaten the game, I had 15 "wasted" skill points into things I never used, plus 7 more skill points free.

My biggest problem with the game is that I don't really care for the art style of the game. Although I have already seen some very beautiful environments/effects, the story-book, high-pastel style isn't my cup of tea.

Everyone has their own opinions on the art. I personally favor good gameplay over art, but you should stick to something you think you will personally enjoy.

The skills and stats aren't complex. They're more customizable. Its not linear. Just as an example, you can play the Outlander as a ranger, or as more of a summoner depending on how you skill. You can also distrubute your stats based on priorities. If you found a good weapon with a lvl 20 or 50 str requirement and you're lvl 5, you can choose to max str first.

I'm still not sure whether I'm going to stick with D3 or shift to TL2 but any additional information or thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards,

I don't think its an either or choice. Think of TL2 as a single player game with multiplayer as an added benefit. If you're looking for an endgame and tons of support for online play, I suggest you stick with D3. If you're just looking for a good time in a highly polished game, I think spending the 20 bucks for TL2 is worthwhile.

I cleared and explored enitire maps until about level 40 or so. It just became so trivial to kill regular enemies that I just ran through entire dungeons to get to the boss. I was also hoping I would get underleveled and it would get harder but it didn't.

Read what Terry107 said. Start on New Game plus, and if you play online, you can change your difficulty to one that suits you. Its unfortunate that you didn't choose the right difficulty level.

If I were planning on playing almost exclusively single-player, is TL2 the better option? I seem to recall, perhaps in the D3 thread, that the game almost needs to be played in multiplayer. Do you think that is a fair assessment?

Thanks so much for all the info.

Looks like there was an update overnight, but I can't get to Runic's site to read the patch notes.

296.5MB Patch (9/23) First Patch!

Hey everybody! It's early early in the morning, but our first post-release patch just went live.
We have a list of other stuff we will be doing in upcoming patches, but we wanted to get one out ASAP to fix some initial issues-

Here's the goods!

STABILITY
*Fixed a potential crash bug when applying affixes and effects in certain circumstances
*Fixed rare crash when turning in quest in the Undercurrents.
*Put in protection against character save file corruption. Corrupted characters will not appear in the list of characters. (And thus can't cause the game to crash on load)

SKILLS
*Fix for Berserker geyser proc showing up as a mappable skill.
*Fix for triggering Shocking Burst and Arc Beam out of range while hitting shift that could cause chain casting.
*'Resist Slow' affix fixed.
*Proc affixes scale better with player level.
*Berserker 'Wolf Shade' now has the (intended) 60 second cooldown applied to all ranks.
*Fix for mistriggering when chaining two skills together when there is an early hit-frame.
*Safety check to stop any looping skills that get stuck in the 'on' state when the character is not performing a skill.
*Fixed bug with 'Poison Burst' procs (they should properly engage at more distant ranges).
*Fix for potential issue when units would queue removed/unavailable skills.
*Fix for having more than 100% reduction to charge decay or a negative flat charge decay.

PERFORMANCE
*Made significant optimizations to particle collisions.

SYSTEMS
*Fix a bug when recalculating the price on objects to make sure the calculation is based on the correct data.
*Fix for bug where rapid clicks could misspend stat points.
*Removed access to console commands in multiplayer games.
*The game's login dialog now correctly allows passwords up to 64 characters long.
*Removed display of other users' IP addresses in multiplayer games.
*Removed Steam Cloud toggle in the settings file (it didn't do anything); the ability to toggle is available in the Steam client.
*Removed logging for achievements to potentially reduce some FPS drops for some users.

LEVELS/SCRIPTING
*Tweaks to various areas to prevent units from getting stuck.
*Changed lootable rocks to be non-colliding as they could occasionally block very narrow corridors.
*Fixes to some level scripting logic in the Frosted Hills.
*Fixed a bug that could cause multiple Tower of the Moon entrances to appear in the world.
*Implemented a few specific boss room pathing fixes.

ACHIEVEMENTS
*Fixed friends list based achievements.
*Spell-learning achievements now don't incorrectly trigger based on other players.

MINOR
*Fixed several typos.
*Improvements to journal tooltips.

Apparently if you were playing late last night the original patch was bugged and accidentally wiped your shared stash

They fixed it with an emergency patch a short while later though so if you only started playing this morning everything should be good.

The only strange thing I'm experiencing is that there seems to be a 'reset flag' of sort related to exploring areas. Last night when I went to bed I just completed the main quests of the first part of Act II (the desert), but I know I haven't cleared all the map so I immediately went back out there this morning to uncover the rest. I found the map all dark as if it was the first time I was there, and all the mobs are up. Anybody else getting anything like this?

Regards,

Everyone has different playstyles. I like exploring, the multiplayer games I've been in have been too fast paced. I enjoyed playing it single player, on my 2nd character right now.

Regards,

D3 is doable solo without much difficulty until you get to Inferno. I finished it all mostly on my own, but I needed help from friends to get through some of the bosses. It's possible to get through them solo, but you'd need really good gear and I wasn't using the AH.

Anyone got any solid builds for the Outlander in Elite/Hardcore? Every other character seems decent. Can't get the Outlander to feel as effective.

Yeah, this happened to me as well; it did, however, retain a teleport waypoint I set down so once I was able to re-explore the map, the portal was still there.
