For those of you who don't heard about this game, go there: www.torchlightgame.com.

This game is just awesome. It have all you love about ARPGs: Lots of loot, action, hordes of monsters, dungeon crawling, simple but effective controls, nice visuals, smooth gameplay, easy item management, etc...

Go get it, it's cheap and awesome!

Thanks for the reminder, I was thinking about it the other day but couldn't remember the name so I couldn't find any more information.

Singleplayer only :/

Probably gonna be very similar to the singleplayer action rpg fate, same designer, singleplayer only, cartoony graphics, etc. Fate was fun for a couple days and then got very boring very quickly.. It's only $20 though.

This game looks great IMO. I'm going to pick it up as soon as I get through a couple other games I have on the back burner.

Been playing the game all night and I'm soooo tired today because of it!

So, the analogy I've been using with people (and on my Twitter) is: You know how you go to see your favorite band perform and some unkown band opens up for them that turns out to be awesome? That's what Torchlight is to Diablo 3.

This game is SO much fun, and for $20 there is really no reason anyone who likes the dungeon crawlers should not buy it. There is a ton of loot to get which consists of swords, axes, hammers, maces, staffs, gun, armor, rings, socket items, gems and more, and it consists of blues, purples., greens (sets) and oranges too. There are Identify and Town Portal scrolls (sound familiar?). Plus Matt Uelmen is going to score (Matt composed the music for Diablo2 as well) and it totally and completely elevates the experience.

The look of the game is oh-so-very much inspired by Warcraft, and not in a pretentious way either. It works, and it's beautiful.

When you create a character you choose between two pers--a wolf or a cat. At this point I'm unsure of the differences beyond the asthetics. The pet is extremely useful because it will attack, learn and cast magic, act as a pack mule (Yes--seriously!) and will even run off to town to sell whatever items you have it holding. Let me say that once more because it's such an awesome feature. There is a little button you press that sends your pet off to town and 30 seconds later the pet returns. It's a huge time saver, and really is one of those features (once you use it) that makes you wonder why it's taken so long.

Something worth noting--the game has no coop. For me, I'm totally fine with it and still think it's a deal at $20, but I know some people will be sore about that.

Torchlight as it is now is strictly singleplayer. But they have plans for turning it into an MMO of sorts in a year to a year and a half.

So assuming this is single player - does this mean the game has a start, middle, and end with an epic storyline?

EH - once I finish Gothic 3 [just started last night] - hopefully I'll have time before Dragon Age is released to pick this one up - sounds like a fun time killer.

Been playing all day (and waiting all year).
Such a great game from such great developers (and people).

Had to go back to my Mythos roots and go for a gun user. Too devastating.

I pre-ordered and forgot about it until about an hour before I had to go to work. I had about 10 minutes to play before I left for work and it was pretty cool. Looks a lot like WoW's graphics, but I like WoW's graphics so its cool. I started as the female archer chick. Seems pretty cool so far. My only complaint is that you can't seem to rotate your view. This would be a helpful feature but so far I haven't seen it as a needed feature. I haven't read the manual or anything and didn't see any control set up to find out if this is available.

I would also like to see an option to hold a key or maybe have a setting that always show the name of the loot that drops to make it easier to see. Some games even have an option to only show loot of a certain grade, like uncommon, rare, etc, so you don't waste time picking up junk.

ALT = Highlight loot/barrels

Junk filter = Moot - Elaboration: The ability to pass items to your pet, have it "warp" back to town, NPC its inventory and "warp" back within 30-60 seconds means getting rid of junk is easy, painless and everything is worth picking up.

I gave it ~2 hours tonight and its great. Taking the standard Barbarian type character on Very Hard... it's rather difficult. Just taken down The Overseer which was a realllly fun fight.

Shelving this until my Fallen Earth addiction has run its course then I am going to become a Torchlighter...

i wouldn't say moot because when you get high enough level, and when you get hundreds of gold or more for 1 type of uncommon item and only get like 1 or gold for a common item, why even waste the time or space for it?

Oh yeah. I meant to preorder this on Steam. Good thing is that it should be pretty small and can be downloaded in an hour or two.

Although it's singleplayer only, I believe they mentioned a while back that they were releasing mod tools for it.

That makes sense for a new studio to release it like that. By releasing the singleplayer within a year or two at a low price, they get a revenue stream and player input and testing, as well as get the name out that you can play around with this game now and play it online in a year or two. Getting the capital for a game that a new studio claims will be a hit MMO when its done in 4 years might be kind of tough to do, especially after Hellgate. This way, they prove they have a viable game to investors as well.

I like the shotgun/black powder rifle guys in Mythos the best. Hope they have something similar in this.

Mythos freakin' rocked. And that was in closed beta! Damn what happened to it but I'm glad the team formed Runic.

This game sounds identical to fate with a new skin (bet you can't even rotate the screen like in King's Bounty). Are there any differences between this an fate ?

They also provided it direct through their website, and also from Direct2Drive and some others.

The website seems to be hammered currently though.

Is digital the only way you can buy it?

Yes. You can buy it on Steam, D2D and the official site.

That stuff will come when the Torchlight MMO is released. I think the plan is toward the end of next year.

Struggling to put it down.... It's pretty challenging on Very hard. My Barbarian class (Need to remember real class name) is level 18 and killing some very crazy goblins about 19 levels below Torchlight.

Things I missed:

Pets can wear necklace/2 rings and equip 2 spells
Pets can have some totally amazing food which lasts 3600 seconds... Don't waste it
Fame - I think this gives me +1 Skill Points every time I get a fame level

With the amount of hard hitting mobs, I am not sure how the other classes will fare. On very hard my best armour is like paper and even the Unique Sword I just looted is taking a good few hits to kill a level 18. Crowd Control is a must and thankfully I have a nice AoE stun which does a boatload of damage,
