I just found Torchlight to be more fun than TQ. The loot system in Titan Quest along with trying to farm for certain items ended up feeling like work to me and while I enjoyed the overall game, parts of it felt tedious and slowly paced. I probably spent as much time in Titan Quest fussing with items in my inventory as I did actually killing monsters.

Torchlight on the other hand really has a better system for loot with everything just taking one square and being able to send your pet off to sell items mid-dungeon. It also just feels a lot more epic as your character seems more powerful and you fight larger numbers of mobs at the same time.

On my melee class I equip my pet with the best heal all spell and the best fireball spell I can, and they are surprisingly helpful with both.

Torchlight is great.....but it needs more inventory slots. Too much junk which seems par for the course in these type of games. And I'm selective when it comes to picking up stuff.

Try slotting an identify spell and some gear with pet -return time. Then it only takes a few seconds whenever you fill to 1) identify everything and 2) shift left-click everything you don't equip or want to save over to your pet. Send your pet off to sell and it will be back before you need it again. One of the reasons I like Torchlight is that it handles this far better than the other games in this genre imho.

Hahaha. I absolutely love this game. How long is it? I just started, but others were saying even the demo is long.

Yeah, I do that already. And I never pick up white items anymore.

Once you get deeper you wont even bother with greens. It's blues or better.
Personally I hate the "1 item, 1 slot" inventory. That's the one thing (and multiplayer) that I don't like about TL.

Those problems are EASILY fixable with the TQ Vault, which we show how to use in one of the many Titan Quest threads, available now at Anandtech.com!

Yeah, I don't like that little things like rings take up the same space as a two handed weapon. They should have a separate pouch just for the small stuff.

I'm somewhere in the 50s, and have been enjoying things for the most part. I am pleasantly surprised at how much there is to this game. The main story is fairly meh, but there's a ton to keep you playing. The pet system is very good, although it'd be nice to have more customization. I don't ever fish or even pay attention to it beyond using it as a mule to be honest. I'd like to see them evolve the idea and have it so you can have your pet buy potions.

The lack of co-op is still a big miss for me. The other issue, is when there's tons of drops in a small area, its a pain to sift through it to find what you want. I'm indifferent to the visual style. Its appealing, but after playing this, I do think Diablo III having a similar one is going to be a letdown since for me personally. The MMO should prove interesting depending on how similar it is. I have been missing a game like this.

Lastly, I'm actually surprised they didn't port this to consoles. Its got more character than the last ones I played on consoles (Baldur's Gate and Everquest which were snorefests, literally I fell asleep playing the one with a friend). I think it would actually translate well, and they'd do well financially. I know its blasphemous, but hey, I'd like them to do well enough to keep making games and improving things.

had to put down my lvl 85 melee man and go back and restart a ranged fighter. Ranged fighters seem to be the most devastating thus far.

FYI: there's a patch up on the runic forums if you downloaded directly from them. Apparently enchanting got accidentally nerfed at some point.

I've been playing as an alchemist the last couple of days... I'm playing on hard and it seems way to easy. Once you get the ember lance skill, you can hold the button down and vaporize everything in your path. Pretty simple game but enjoyable thus far.

There's a good enchanting mod out there too.
I like that it limits to 3 max enchants. Makes it a tad harder.

I have to admit ive always fell in love with diablo and those style of rpg games. I love fantasy games like that which are fast paced click fests. I cant stand turn based and slow bs, to me that stuff just stands still.

I just recently found out about this game and am definitely interested in probably getting it.

Just got this game last weekend, I loved Diablo 1 so I'm not bothered by the fact that there isn't any mp. Having a great time with it, sucks that I decided to get it at the same time MW2 came out so I won't have much time to spend on it. Great game and a steal for $20.

I haven't tried VHHC yet, but it sounds like Nethack... only less fun.

Playing on Hard right now with a destroyer...kinda easy (drinking an ton of pots)...i haven't died yet at lvl 15. I do take some serious damage fast since i've gone 95% strength but consequently I slaughter even champions in 3-5 hits of smashing blow.

I did try Very Hard with an Alchemist but messed up trying to use the summon tree, was pretty weak for very hard. So i think i will reroll one on Very Hard, or may be a Vanquisher.

Anyway it's fun to play a mindless game and rage through as fast as I can.

Anyone else on Hard or are ya all going VH?

Finished the game on "normal" a few days ago. The last boss was somewhat hard even with ember lance maxed.

After finishing the game, and trying the hardest diff, torchlight somehow lost it's appeal. I tried playing as a rogue, but she is way too weak in the beginning and requires kiting jsut about every single monster for some amount of time. Way too long and boring. Had this game a coop mode thigns would be different. I'll be glad to come back to TL when they add multiplayer.

That's what I'm waiting for before buying it, I've been tempted but I've been holding on and I'll wait for multi-player. I'll buy Gratuitous Space Battles in two days (Steam version) and I'll spend my time on that one instead for the coming days. If Torchlight indeed gets a proper closed multi-player mode (where the character's stats and files are held in a server to avoid cheating) then I will buy it. If it ends up being open multi-player I won't bother.

I wouldn't expect multiplayer unless someone mods it in and so far there are two people working on it. For true multiplayer, you will have to wait for the F2P MMO which they are aiming for in 18 months. Also to offer a closed system they would seriously have to cripple the modding ability of this game which at least for me this is one of the things that will keep me playing this for a long time.

For example, you already have two new classes, vampire and necromancer in development by members, and a complete overhaul of the destroyer with new skills was just released by another member. Another person is working on a survival zombie dungeon and has released an early version of the first level just to show what he is doing. If you need more private stash, there is now a mod that adds four chests to town though no one has cracked the shared stash yet to expand it. Tired of the dog or cat, then use the pet potions from another mod to change them into various bosses or champions or custom skins such as a red wolf which is larger than the dog and has a charge ability.

For such a relatively new game there are already a ton of mods out or in progress. Personally I can't wait to see what else comes out. At $20 it has already been well worth the money to me.
