So far, less than 24 hours into the sale Torchlight has tripled the amount of concurrent users from around 1,000 to 4,000. If 40% of all the weekend Steam Torchlight purchasers are playing RIGHT NOW (complete guess), then the game has sold about 7,500 copies through Saturday afternoon. Based on my guestimate math and with another 40 hours to go, the game could sell more than 20,000 copies.

Congrats to Runic for what is (hopefully) a very successful sale!

I'm actually enjoying TL. I have a Lvl 21 Vanquisher and a Lvl 19 Destroyer. Some of the levels are a little repititious but going through them is pretty quick and fun. I'm enjoying the Vanquisher the most so far. I haven't tried an Alchemist yet but I plan to.

TL probably won't be a huge seller for Runic but it'll keep them in the green I'm thinking. TL is supposed to be a test game for their MMO anyway. So we'll see how that works out for them.

Btw, whats the minimum number of sales a game has to have before its classified as a hit these days? Gotta be at least 100,000 these days, right? I remember when it used to be only 10,000 units sold but that was way back in the 90s.

I'd been planning to buy the game anyway, but when I saw it on sale for $10 it took me less than a minute to check out, giggling gleefully all the while. I haven't gotten much chance to play, but I'm already thoroughly enjoying the experience.

The save game to Steam cloud is amazing feature. With the surprisingly low requirements, this will keep me entertained on the crappiest of the computers.

How long does it take to beat this game?

If you do the side quests and some of the leveled dungeons, about 20 hours per character. I've put in about 50 hours so far, having started over a few times after figuring out which skills I liked, and playing with a few characters at the same time and am still having an absolute blast.

Yeah, if you do everything Runic says about 20 hours. You can keep playing though after the final boss is dead and you have done all the side quests. I haven't gotten that far yet though.

For some reason I cannot play this game in full screen mode. As soon as I change the setting to full screen, the game just stops loading. I then have to edit the settings file manually to reset it to windowed mode.

In case anybody is wondering, I have it on w7 64 bit and I have x-fired radeon 4770's.

The game is quite boring.
I've been playing as the Alchemist and I'm now level 9.

The game seems overhyped.

yes, gets boring fast after the demo time expires. waste of $20.

I bought the full game for $10.
Maybe it's only boring because of the character I selected. I will give the game one more chance by playing as the Barbarian guy or the Amazon/Assassin like character.

The Sorcress/Necromancer class in Diablo II was fun. The Alchemist class in this game is a complete opposite.

Play it on very hard. The fights can get pretty intense.

I just hit level 10 with the Vanquisher playing on Very Hard. I read all the warnings here that the normal difficulty was very low, and I've soloed Hell in Diablo.

Sincerely, I'm still waiting for the game to get hard. I just got my first level 10 talent which knocks everyone back away from me. Coupled with a pair of fast firing pistols and points in ranged and dual wield, nothing can even get near me, much less hurt me. If all else fails, I'm faster than any monster so I can just kite them with ranged weapons if I needed to. I'm hoping the challenge level picks up before long.

The game is pretty addicting to me, and I've never played Diablo or other hack and slash games. I'm currently a level 26 Vanquisher, and I don't see myself stop playing anytime soon.

My main goal at the moment is transmuting gems into some pretty nice ones. Very addicting game. If you find the game boring... perhaps try a different class.

I had a level dungeon (you buy the scrolls from a vendor to access it)... I believe it was lvl 20-30 dungeon, and it was pretty difficult. I was drinking potions pretty rapidly. The main reason why the game is so easy, is because you level too fast. More often than not, you outpace all the mobs by the time you get to them.

Likewise ! I was a big fan of Dungeon Siege, DS II, and this game reminds me very much of that game in its creatures and its spells. Never played Diablo so I know I missed out on that, but at this point I am a level 25 battle mage that is enjoying the $10 spent on this little gem.

I didn't even use Ember Beam until last night after reading through the Runic forums. I also did not do anything to help out my pet, so I added a heal and summon zombie spells after reading how that is done and my pet is now dishing out some damage and adds to the total party members which deflects a lot of mobs from me.

As far as trying to be a battle mage, just like in Dungeon Siege I will be a jack of all trades, master of none, but I still enjoy that skillpath. I just attack and kite, attack and kite a lot.

did anyone find the end section (last 8 levels + boss) to be ridiculously hard?

i mean, it's like i had a lightning-hose diablo at every corner with those fire breathing guys... and then the boss... ahhhh. i just ground through the end by resurrecting at the floor, literally right in front of the boss, hitting him till i died, resurrected again... rinse and repeat.

For greater challenge play it on Very Hard and Hardcore. It is a dungeon crawler game and they can get boring after a while for some people. You either like these type of games or you don't. if you don't like them then they will be boring to you. Simple as that.

My pure summoner Alchemist struggled. He could get one-shot by certain mobs or spells near the end. Very hard setting I might add.

The final boss himself was easy but the amount of times he summoned a whole army to help him made it so that I died 15-20 times to take him down.

Once my summons surrounded the boss and gave him both barrels with the damage enhancement buff and thorns buff his health went down quite nicely. I did not exploit summons spells either (I did not have Skeleton IV and Skeleton III and constantly swap between the two as they do not share the same cooldown timer or summon limit).

Was a pretty fun fight if a little grindy and scary.

So far I'm liking the Vanquisher the most. She has a bow with over 800 dps on it. I enchanted the hell out of it. Pretty much a 1 shot killer. LOL This is on normal difficulty though. I have a Destroyer for some melee fun and last night I made a Alchemist for the first time. Trying to make him a pure caster type. I figure since I like Vanquisher so much that a magic shooter type would be fun as well. These two characters I'm playing on hard mode for some added challenge.

The game is fun and simplistic in how its played and thats its whole lure I think. Simple fun play anyone can quickly jump into to pass some time. At least thats how I see it and think of it. It works for me anyway. I paid the full $30 and I'm not disappointed. Other companies would make you pay $50 most likely. With the holiday sales currently going on its a worthy addition to your game catalog if you like dungeon crawlers.

If anyone has some tips on making a better pure caster I'm open for suggestions. So far I been using a staff only but I'm thinking a shield + wand might be better for defensive purposes.

I swap between staff (stronger physical damage, better stats) , or dual wield scepters (faster attack speed, ranged attack) and built up my alchemist as a pet-mage. The golems are very strong and do a pretty good job soaking up damage while you blast away. I was never a fan of "kiting" in any game so this worked out well for me.

If you're a melee toon you might be in trouble if your resistances are not up, as I find in this game (Like Most Diablo like games), the only things that really kill you are burst elemental damage. Those Blood Acolytes / Blood Mages whatever that shoot those green arrows at you for example hurt pretty bad.

If you stay in the room with the stair entrance and circle him around the room, it's more manageable as most of the enemies he summons get stuck behind walls or come in a line single file (since they have no room to spawn, so spawn behind one another)

The game is painfully easy with a Vanquisher even on very hard difficulty due to her imbalance. Her explosive arrow and high crit chance is insane when built properly. Even without chaos gem farming you can hit 35% crit chance pretty easy.

In any case, Torchlight is fun and it's a nice refreshing Diablo-Lite definitely worth the couple of bucks.

Bought this for 4.99. It is really fun but I managed to somehow get my character stuck between a bridge pillar and a rock. Dont ask me how. But is there anyway to get her out? I tried portaling to town and back but it places me in the same spot.

I am the king of finding these problems in games. If there is terrain to get stuck on I will find it.

I'm assuming all enemies within range are dead? Is there any enemy on the edge of the screen you could goad out with your pet toward you and then set them on passive?

If you're desperate you can activate console. I found some information on a link here:

You can 'ascend' a floor ( which will NOT mark you as a cheater ), and that should get you out.

From start->run

%appdata%

and press enter

Then browse to runic games\torchlight
there should be a settings.txt file in there

change
Console :0

to

Console :1

Now, when you load your character, hold SHIFT and press the ~ key and a console should come up.
Type ASCEND and press return
That should pop you up a level and hopefully you should be un-stuck.
