I bought it tonight and loaded it up on the Phenom II w. GTX260-216 and Win7. Game runs flawless at 1920x1200 (ofc we knew this) and it is super fun.

I just wasted 2 hours playing it. I can't wait to make maps for it. I can't wait to install it on the netbook once Win7 cures my netbook's Vista woes.

All in all... the polish on this game is fun. I'd probably even play an MMO of it too.

I played this for a few hours last night. I'm playing as the alchemist on normal. I've only been putting points into my magic stat and minion abilities. I have the 3 goblin minions, a robot and my pet and I have to say it is so easy I just rip through everybody I come across without even using my own powers. I seriously just run across the level gathering loot while my minions tear the joint up.

The only thing that makes it difficult is the fact that the AI of the minions are dumb as rocks. They cannot follow me correctly and are always getting stuck behind barriers and walls. It is really annoying how crappy the AI is with the minions.

I wish I could change the difficulty in game because it is so easy, I can literally walk into a room with a hundred enemies and just stand right in the middle of them while my minions tear it up.

The patch is suppose to allow you to change difficulty from console:

I found out about the game only a week ago, saw the trailer and the price looked just right, so bought it using PayPal. Easily the best Diablo clone I have ever played and possibly the best game for me this year. Although calling it it a clone seems kind of harsh as it does have a lot of good touches. I especially like how you can sacrifice a few experience points and resurrect at the same spot. Also like how town portals stay open when you restart your game. I have finished the main quest already at normal difficulty and still can't put the game down.

The only complaint I have is about the level load times. They are slooooow even on a quad core system with 8GB ram and 512MB graphics card.

Hey have a question. I can't remember the guys name. Blink or Brink or something like that.

I left him at some spot in level 3 because he got hung up and forgot to go back and get him. Well at like level 5 he's supposed to die or something? And I get cursed?

The game stopped when I walked into the boss room. Like an animation or something was supposed to play, but since the dude wasn't with me, nothing ever happened. I just hit esc and whooped the boss.

But now they are talking about him dying and me being cursed. Can someone explain a bit of what was supposed to happen?

Known issue. To be resolved in the patch that is due any day.

As soon as you walk through those heavy iron doors Brink sees the big evil dude that was attacking the young lady character in the town. He charges in and Alric + the big evil dude blast Brink with a blast of Ember.

You run in to try to save Brink but get infected with the Ember too. Brink transforms into the monster which you then slay.

Or get owned by if you're playing it on very hard

Yeah, with my melee character I just build up his strength and his first level melee ability to the max and he rips through everything. I haven't taken time to do much with enchantments, transmutation and the like..... maybe I should take a look at the manual 'cause I have very little clue what those dudes are doing at surface level, lol. The only challenge I've had is keeping up a good mana supply but there are items in the game that I've equipped to keep it juiced up. Still, it is great mindless fun rippin' though stuff.

Apologies for the quadruple post. I hit the submit button and the browser just sat there for ages and nothing happened, so I must have hit the submit a few more times but eventually just gave up and closed the tab. That's the first time have achieved that on any forum.

Ah, thanks for that. I look forward to the patch.

WOOO a patch, and I'm finally not spending a night at the girlfriend's and can veg out tonight!

I've got a Destroyer and Vanquisher that are a lot of fun to play, but my biggest issue is deciding on a damn build for my low-level Alchemist, who's tricked out with shared gear. I loved the idea of a melee mage, but from the forums it seems it's a very specific and tricky playstyle. Stun / run in and kill one / run out / re-stun

Awesome. I'm gonna have fun tonight.

Oh crap! I didnt know we had a thread about this.
I got the demo a while ago and while it was fun I didnt think it was worth buying. Plays almost exactly like Fate and costs more.
For this kind of money I'd rather have Titan Quest + Expansion.

can I recommend getting the "Epic Boss Map" mod thats out there?
Its incredibly hard, but just potion/pet up and you will level like mad (not to mention get tons of set pieces and uniques and rares.

Finally got around to reading the manual.....after level 15 of my meleer. Learned one cool thing I didn't know....you can teach your doggie to learn and cast spells. He does it automatically. I gave him one that casts skellies and now I see abunch of skeletons running around.

The AI for it seems pretty poor, seems to just autocast whenever the spell is off cooldown. I gave my cat a self heal spell and he just casts it nonstop even at full hp.

I try to give my Pet the best Heal All spell I can find...

Wonder what it would do with the Town Portal or Identify spell.

By the way Steam has patched the game. Enjoy the changes, bug fixes and the like Travis @ Runic forgot to change the Menu screen to show v1.12. Check your options and if you have a vsync option then it is updated.

The patch fixed most of the issues I've seen mentioned in this thread. Patch notes are available here: http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2030

Overall the game is really fun and has others have said, it is easily the best diablo clone out there now. Runic really does a good job of isolating the fun parts and then minimizing the tedious parts. I should also mention that it runs well on older systems and it performs flawlessly on my non-gaming laptop.

I do recommend that you play the game on hard if you're experienced with these sort of games. It's pretty easy to out level the main quests by doing the side maps and once you start picking up the 25 skills your character becomes ridiculously overpowered no matter what class you picked.

I've heard a lot about this game and i have to ask; what makes this game "the best Diablo clone so far"? And as some other post stated, why is this better than, say, Titan Quest + Expansion? Doesn't the "single-player only" bit hurt the game?

It is an easy, pick up and play game which has an addictive snare which will keep you addicted for hours on end. Thats what makes it the best Diablo clone so far.

I slightly prefer it to TQ:IT because of the pace of the game. I feel busier and more active than I did in TQ:IT and I don't have to worry so much about farming for equipment to get a certain resist to make a portion of the game playable... even on the Very hard setting.

The skill and attribute base is much simpler to work with and it suits the nature of the game. Most skills are useful at level 1 and quite a lot of them are affected by your stats, ie. The Alchemist's Damage Shield ability can have its defensive capabilities increased by upping Defense (50%) and Magic (50%).

To me, Torchlight is much more about how you play it than what items you have to play it with as opposed to Titan Quest where certain parts of the game could be frustratingly difficult without maximising certain resists at certain times.

Single player only can never hurt a game. If you dont like the fact that is is singleplayer only then you dont buy it. Personally Titan Quest was a single player game to me and I enjoyed it thoroughly on my 4 different times of playing it through.

I've played this a little and Fate for a long time. Other than the pets these games are really nothing special. If you are tired of Titan Quest and itching for some hack'n'slash while waiting for Diablo 3, this is a good time killer. Its relatively fun and easy to get into. But if you never played either game you would not be missing out on very much.
