I've heard a lot about this game and i have to ask; what makes this game "the best Diablo clone so far"? And as some other post stated, why is this better than, say, Titan Quest + Expansion? Doesn't the "single-player only" bit hurt the game?
It is an easy, pick up and play game which has an addictive snare which will keep you addicted for hours on end. Thats what makes it the best Diablo clone so far.
I slightly prefer it to TQ:IT because of the pace of the game. I feel busier and more active than I did in TQ:IT and I don't have to worry so much about farming for equipment to get a certain resist to make a portion of the game playable... even on the Very hard setting.
The skill and attribute base is much simpler to work with and it suits the nature of the game. Most skills are useful at level 1 and quite a lot of them are affected by your stats, ie. The Alchemist's Damage Shield ability can have its defensive capabilities increased by upping Defense (50%) and Magic (50%).
To me, Torchlight is much more about how you play it than what items you have to play it with as opposed to Titan Quest where certain parts of the game could be frustratingly difficult without maximising certain resists at certain times.
Single player only can never hurt a game. If you dont like the fact that is is singleplayer only then you dont buy it. Personally Titan Quest was a single player game to me and I enjoyed it thoroughly on my 4 different times of playing it through.
