Larian cut substantial content that was promised as stretch goals. night day schedule was relatively minor compare to everything else cut.
Hearing this makes me wonder what they are doing to Divinity: Original Sin 2.

The stretch goals for D:OS-2 were more conservative; though it still remains to be seen. Also their budget is quite a bit larger than xile (due to success of D:OS).

I never paid any attention to the goals or the development of Divinity. I prefer to take the route that leads to as little disappointment as possible and that seems to be to just wait until it's released and take it for face value. Too many companies are making huge promises and not delivering for whatever reason.

That's every product ever delivered though. Prior to Kickstarter, consumers rarely got to see how oversold the early vision of the product was (unless it was a Peter Molyneux game) compared to what was actually shipped. All manner of things get left on the cutting room floor during development and unless you had some way to know about their possible inclusion (maybe a magazine article hyping some new game several months ago might have mentioned such things occasionally) and then realizing and remembering that it wasn't there, you'd never know.

It's probably just better to stay away from the hype completely and you'll be far happier or more satisfied. What could have been is always going to look better than what actually is. Add in the inability for most developers to do accurate estimation and you have a situation that's ripe for disappointment.

I grew up not knowing anything about a game until you picked it up at the store and read the back of the box. Later came demo stations at places like Target, K-Mart, and Wal-Mart, but even then it was usually just the same Wave Racer every single time. Demo Discs helped tremendously, but even after commercial media started showcasing video games, I never cared to pick up on the hype (with one exception) and always preferred to just check out the game once it hit the stores. Now with digital distribution, I can easily wait until the game is released and watch gameplay videos if I'm on the wall about a certain game.

I started and have since quit... the game isn't for me. It's not an RPG so much as a 'choose your adventure' novel. There is equipment but I don't see why as you can talk your way out of 99% of combat it appears. All I did when I played was walk around and talk to people, then talked to them again, and again, etc. until the quests advanced and I completed them.

I'm sure it'll appeal to some people but a lot of Steam ratings are the same as what I'm saying...

Thanks for the confirmation. This is exactly why I didn't back this project. Everything I read indicated it just wasn't the type of game for me. The story seems amazing so I might end up watching a playthrough on youtube....
