We have tons of retards that don't follow what is happening yet go vote :'(

Metro/Star article this morning about how people identify with Ford as a simple, against the establishment, and non-elitist. How they think of Ford as one of them and all these negatives just make him seem more "human".

Cause every normal person has a multi-million dollar inheritance...

Had some fun this afternoon absolutely crushing some liberal friends of mine on Facebook over this story. Turns out they don't like it when you bring up other politicians who have admitted to drug use while in office, and were never questioned on it. Also turns out pot and crack consumption are treated the criminal code. Oops. Sorry Justin.

For the record, I don't think either men should be thrown out of office for their drug use while serving. Neither has been charged or convicted, and there is no evidence that they consumed the substance while on the job. Ford most certainly needs to seek help with his alcohol addiction though. I'm just very tired of this "gotcha" society and media environment right now. If you can't attack them on policy or public record, destroy their character. Meanwhile, Dalton McGinty is enjoying retirement after blowing almost $1 billion in tax dollars to win two seats last election.

God knows as an American I probably shouldn't be pointing fingers, but I find it hard to understand how a person like this is mayor of one of the largest and most economically significant cities in North America.

I see it as basically the same reason America voted in George W. Bush after Bill Clinton; despite being reasonably successful, voters just wanted to go another way and try something different. So after a two-term mayor who was a Harvard graduate and Rhodes Scholar, we elected... Rob Ford.

There were a lot of single issue votes gained by Mr. Ford as well - we had just gone through a months-long strike by the garbage collector's union that our Harvard mayor did not lift a finger to resolve (being rather to the left and indebted to unions), spending was fairly uncontrolled and nothing ever got done on the transit file. Ford, to his credit, has instituted private garbage collection in 50% of the city, reined in spending (for good and for bad) and may have even gotten a plan for more subways moving (again, for good and for bad). He ran a very focused campaign and won on these promises.

One saving grace for Toronto, incidentally - being mayor of the city doesn't by itself mean all that much. You still get just one vote at city council, and your only other ability is to appoint people to executive councils (like to run transit, or finance). City council is currently working on taking even that power away from him as well. I hope it passes.

Those appointing powers get you some pretty good sheep when things are going well. I still remember the sheep councilors that kissed his ass, got in line with everything he did when he wasn't toxic. Now some of those people are completely independent and critical of him. Yay, politics...

He is such a joke of a mayor, but he does provide endless entertainment.
Yup.

Although I must admit I was shocked he got the feds on board to pony up cash for the subway. Hell, for that I can almost overlook the rest of the shenanigans. Turns out it's because the Minister of Finance is family friend apparently.

I agree, but it seems as if hypocrites are all over the world. The worst was that many POTUS use/d drugs.

My issue is more with his apparent stupidity and buffoonishness than whether this is hypocritical. From what I have seen there is literally not a single attribute of Rob Ford that suggests to me he would be suitable to serve as the mayor of a major city. He is an inarticulate, ignorant, arrogant, poorly-thought-out, morbidly obese poly-substance addict who appears likelier to die of a heart attack or stroke then to accomplish anything in his remaining year in office. I find it just stupefying that he is running for re-election, but I guess shameless people behave shamelessly.

Other than JFK I am not aware of any President using drugs while in the White House, and I don't see it as hypocritical for a President to be a former drug user. The reality is that in today's world it's unlikely we will ever again have a President who has not at least experimented with drugs.

Damn it Canada!

Canada is a bad influence on the USA. They're the reason we voted for Bush and they're the reason we have a drug war.

I'd say the repeatedly lying about the video and crack use are the real problem, more than actual crack use.

Agreed. He could have just fessed up earlier on and avoided much of this.

It's his constant antagonizing and lying. This is the guy who started off his term by inviting someone who essentially called every non-supporter a "left-wing pinko" while wearing a pink suit.

Then there's the constantly playing the victim card -- the police are persecuting him too, apparently. I really don't give a shit that he smokes crack. Then there's the hypocrisy, self-righteousness...
