Hey all. I'm going to extreme measures to test / burn in a new near silent gaming rig for a family member. While doing an unrealistic usage scenario (simultaneously running Intel Burn Test 2.54 at maximum stress level, BOINC with 100% allowance on GPU and CPU, FurMark 1.15.1.0 stress test with max AA and post processing, and playing music with VLC from a networked computer.) in a warm room, in a confined space, with the case closed, I peaked as high as 96C on one of the cores. I ran it for 15 to 20 minutes before deciding to stop the insanity. The mouse would lag a bit now and again, but otherwise, no BSoD or burning silicon.

When doing JUST a CPU stress test with intel burn in on maximum stress, I'm peaking at 90C on a core, with the average core temp ranging from 79 to 86C (in a warm room, with a closed case, in a confined space). Package temp is averaging around 85C. System has been rock solid and still responsive when doing just one subsystem test at a time.

I've tried numerous threads in Google to find the official safe maximum operating temperatures for the core i7 5820k, but haven't had any success finding an official temp. GPUs are only hitting around 82C. I've never gotten the GPUs over 86C in non-real world usage scenarios.

Should I be concerned about the temps? I was considering doing a small OC (4 to 4.2 GHz), but with the peak as high as it is, I'm less confident on moving forward with that. Thoughts? Suggestions? Was it a bad move to go with air cooling? About the only time this beast goes above ambient noise levels thus far is in non-real world testing scenarios, currently.

Parts:
Antec 280
Seasonic Platinum 1kw
Asus X99-A
Intel Core i7 5820k currently at stock speeds
Scythe Kotetsu heatsink
Gelid Extreme compound thermal paste
Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB
4 x 4 Corsair Vengeance LPX at it's more aggressive XMP
LG Bluray burner
2 x Gigabyte Geforce 970 GTX OC

Thanks ya'll.

You're fine.. Unlikely any software you're using will stress the CPU like that..

Yeah, you'll likely never see that in real-life usage, but even if you did, it's not out of spec. In a confined space it might heat the ambient air up enough to eventually go over, but unless you are running 100% CPU 24/7, that's not going to happen.
