Not the best notebook in the world, but a pretty good price none the less. They ran this on Black Friday also. Dealspree.com had this deal posted, but the person said it was $599 after MIR, but it went into my cart at $1049.

good luck trying to get that compaq at BB. all the stores i hit said they have a whooping 2-4 on sunday morning. on a positive note... CC will gladly pm BB and give u a $200 instant rebate.

According to post on FW, there's an extra $150 rebate printing out making it only $500 laptop!!
VERY HOT DEAL!

But this extra $150 rebate is not online though, who knows whether it'll actually print out or not.

I tried ordering online but they don't allow shipping at all for me, only pickup.

FYI, the Compaq runs CS pretty well. A little slowdown with smoke, but that's about it The main issue is HD speed - 4200RPM and it's an IBM *shudder* (Deskstar 60GXP memories)

The extra rebate will be valid starting Sunday (12/15). Each store will have a minimum of 10 laptops for this price.

So starting Sunday, if you can get one, the deal is $1099 - $100(IR) - $300(BB MIR) - 200 (Toshiba MIR) = $499
Or it appears that right now you can do the following for the same price: $1049 - $200(Toshiba MIR) - $200(BB MIR) - $150(BB MIR) = $499

This is very tempting to me, but after learning it is a desktop processor, and that the battery life is so short, I am having second thoughts.

actually, I believe you meant:
$1049 - $200(toshiba MIR) - $200(BB MIR) - $150 MIR(??? MIR) = $500

or i could be wrong. but uh... anybody know where this extra $150 is coming from (since we've already rebated to BB and toshiba...)

great deal though. going to go buy it right now then rebuy on the 15th XD its worth the trouble + i am on winter break anyways

If the $150 isn't true though... I'd much rather go for the +$50 compaq. Don't really know why I prefer that one anymore... it's about the same specs cept has extra CD burner & slightly heavier. anybody with any inputs / thoughts please help me decide!!!

JUST CONFIRMED.

I went to BB and pick one up. SUre enough, 3 rebates printed out. $200 to Toshiba and $200 & $150 to BB.

I'll go back on Sunday and get an extra $50 from PM to BB itself or $150 PM to Microcenter that has it for $899!

lucky you. i went to BB tried to pick one up. they only had 10 in stock. they say they have 20 coming... and headquarters told them to not sell any until sunday... sigh X(... guess its waking up early sunday morning for me. anybody know when best buy opens? i forgot to check...

note: the clerk lied to me... said that u cant buy it today and return it later and rebuy it because the SKU will be different and so the rebates wont work on them. lol. i was like... uh so what happens to the 10 that u dont sell from now till sunday... and do sell on sunday... do those 10 not allow rebates? he was like... well they've figured it out by now. if that was possible everybody would just do what u do... i was like LOL... right.

THey're definitely doing something funky. When I bought mine, I asked them how many they have in stock.. he said 10. So I called my friend and when he called to double check, the same store said that they have none in stock..
I just came back from BB again and they price-matched my laptop..

you should all call in ur local best buys... seems like it sold so great they're reordering more through the course of this week. my local best buy had only 5 today not a long line as expected of a weekday just sad cuz i had to wait 2 days... but considering this wait didnt require a tent makes it okay.

I don't know what crack some of you are smoking but the Toshiba laptop DOES NOT have a desktop processor! The battery life is just fine on it. It has a MOBILE CELERON. I know because I have it.

I would be pissed at this deal since I have the laptop, but I bought it 1-week old from a neighbor for $500 6 months ago.

the $150 extra rebate supposedly is invalid.



i had tried to instore pickup this , when i saw it. it was out of stock everywhere though, but i had sent instore pickup orders to 3 stores, trying to get a store that had one. each store would send a "out of stock" email, and then i'd order from the next store and tried this 3 times. anyways i had 3 orders all said out of stock which i thought meant canceled and apparently it meant backordeered, with $350 in best buy rebates, and $200 in toshiba rebates.


anyways, bestbuy goes its out of stock, and sends me 3 emails saying they will cancel all 3 of my orders. however they also sent an email saying that the $150 rebates that were on their website and printing out was a mistake or something. Anyways, they gave me 3 $25 off $25 coupons because of this.


soi do not know if you will get the $150 rebate if you ordered this just because it printed out.


anyways, i still bought this laptop , this week actually. since tons of people flooded ebay with them, i was able to get one for $730, no rebates since the guy was already handling that, and he was desperate to sell it seems. $730 out the door is better than i could have done one my own getting it for $1099 + tax - $200 toshiba rebate - 200 bb rebate which would have been around $800 because of california sales tax not to mention waiting for $400 in rebates.



also as for the processor, they are all pin compatible. you can actually use most p4 mobile chips in desktop boards, they just run at the multiplier that the speedstep setting is on for p4s, and the normal multiplier for celerons since celerons have no speedstep.


my plan right now for my 1115 which i am getting monday, is to buy a p4 -m sppedstep 1.5-1.7 ghz chip on ebay for $60 or so and just upgrade it myself. i can jsut take the celeron out and put it in a desktop or something. its probably concievable that a desktop p4 chip would work in the laptop also, but i dont think it can disappate the heat well enough, but i'm sure it'd run as its pin compatible and should be bios compatible.
