It is because there is a 12x toshiba dvd rom for $87 on pricewatch (it's 102.95 at buy.com) and the website is PCM Direct and if you could use the coupons like you can on staples, wouldn't it be for ~$60 and free shipping? oh well. Please let me know. Thank you

oh yeah! how could buy.com state that tax is 7.25% and if my total for my order is 120.44, wouldn't that make it $8.732 and not $10.91 Could someone please explain this weird thing (I'm cheap and really want to save money ^_^)

You'll need at least a software decoder. You can't watch a dvd movie with out decoding (hardware or software). Your cpu is powerful enough to do software decoding.

Yes, you have a P3-450, 256Mb memory, Riva TNT2 32Mb video card. You will need a software or hardware decoder with this DVD drive. But if you get the "bundle" that includes the DVD decoder card, you will then have the hardware decoder.

You can download trial versions of software DVD player, such as WinDVD and try them out.

Since I have a PIII 700 running at 933Mhz, I don't really need the decoder card. I'm thinking of jumping in on the $103 - $20 coupon plus free shipping deal. Can someone tell me the face plate color of the Toshiba. I have a Plextor 12x/10x/32x CDRW in my system now, and I was hoping that the Toshiba would kind of match the Plextor color. Anyone have both of these that could comment on the color match.

I'm looking at the drive now and the face is basicly white, at least it looks white compared to my yamaha cdr (off white), case (off white) and floppy (yellow with age).

I think win98 came with a free dvd player. You have to search to find it but it's in there (I'm pretty sure).

It's a crappy player tho. Hardware decoding is generally much better.

Well I had sent in my Rom and they told me that they would send my the
Package" and I received the same damn thing that I got before!!!
So now I am very upset with buy.com...I thought that they were a honest company, and not try to rip people off....So now what.

Now you either fight with buy.com for a rebate, or send the drive back for a refund. I ordered the drive last night with a 20off100 and free shipping. I figure $83 shipped is a good deal for this drive.

Basiclly what the CSR are thinking is that the SKU is suppose to come with the decoder card, and you just got a package that is missing items. So when they said they would send you the bundle the just reorded the same SKU. If you bring the error to their attention and they realize it's not just a simple reship, they will be much less cooperative.

umm...I just went to the descriptionpage and they have changed the description. It no longer lists the hollywood decoder card there. However, when I go to the bundle thing, there is no description and it's on backorder.

Well, just received my third toshiba 12x bare drive from buy.com. I think I'm just going to give up on this .

Did anyone get the replacement bundle or are we all getting the same thing again??

2 weeks ago i shipped back my old drive to get the 'replacement bundle' and finally today I got another bare drive. i called buy.com and got a pretty dumb guy on the phone.

i had to tell him my order # 3 times, because he said his system crashed..

i complained about waiting two weeks and getting the bare drive with no decoder card, and finally after being on hold 3 times I asked for a refund just for the decoder card, and he said he had to ask and I was put on hold again, and then he said I could get $20.00 for the trouble.
