Toshiba DVD drives are very quiet and reliable. They read data CDs between 32-35x without that annoying jet-engine noise. Unfortunately I think on this model (SD-M1502) the DAE is limited to 11-12x and the DVD rip speed is limited to 2x. I have the 12x Toshiba and it is 9x DAE/9x DVD rip. The quality of the rips are very good though, it usually reads error-free in EAC.

Here is the same drive from the same company for $42.95 shipped and you will save more on shipping if you order than one. Access Micro and McGlen Micro are the same company. I have ordered from both and the billing is the same. Access has lower prices but higher shipping. I found it much cheaper to order from McGlen when ordering several sticks of memory. I have had good service from both companies.

The Lite-on LTD163 transfers data at ~38x on average and 50X max. The Toshiba M1612 transfers data at ~36X average and 47X max.
The DAE of the Lite-on is 35X average and 49X max.Tthe Toshiba is 22X average and 30X max.
They give the Lite-on a 10/10 for performance and the Toshiba 8/10 for performance.
Both drive are given a 9/10 overall rating.

Does anyone know if an Amex PM would work for this drive, onto the one that Newegg has for sale for $56 after S&H?

Couldn't find a direct link to it - but go to http://www.newegg.com and search for SD-M1612

If that's the case - it would be $46.95 - $15 = $31.95 - not too shabby, right?

(please correct my PM math if I'm mistaken - I'm new at PM'ing with Amex).

Edit: Duh! Not even a second after pressing submit, I knew this was wrong - should've been:

$48.95 - $33 = $15.95 back in PM, making the total..

$56.95 - $15.95 = $41

still, not too bad - my question being - would they PM these two, since there's a small difference in part numbers (although the drive's the same, both the OEM version, not retail, and same manufacturer and bundle).
