Since somebody else bumped this post to the top, I'll ask one question: what carrier to Office Depot use for "3 day delivery" orders? I know they have their own drivers for local stuff, but I am wondering if they are like Staples and use UPS for out-of-area deliveries.

I went to Office Depot on Friday to check this notebook out. It seems ok, but I couldn't ever use it because the screen just doesn't look too great.

Compare it to some of the other more exensive notebooks at OD and I think you'll find that the display on this Toshiba just isn't up to the same quality as the others.

Nice price, but is it worth it if it doesn't look great? Not for me.

I just ordered one from 1-800-GO-Depot. They still had several according to the sales person.

You got till midnight.

$899.00

I noticed previous threads on a $20.00 rebate. Is this only If I ordered it through that coupon site?

Anyone having problems with the display quality?

I noticed the one in the store was a little fuzzy.

I can always take it back one I get it.

I just got another laptop at office depot and used two sets of coupons that should also work on this one...

1) buy the laptop online and select in-store pick-up with cash payment.
when they screw things up in the store and can't correctly process the order, they just sell it to you in the store at the price you got after online coupons.

2) take in a print-out of an emailed staples or office max BM coupon and ask them to also accept that as part of a PM policy.

Got mine for a great price

-100 OD Rebate
-100 manufacturer Rebate
-140 from 10% OD Coupon (no longer valid, but use theirs for $20 off)
-20 or -50 PM coupon (depends on store's willingness to accept them)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
over $400 saving after taxes

Good Luck - YMMV

<< I bought mine from CC last Thursday (2/28), for $999 (-100 CC rebate - 100 Toshiba rebate). Now that Office Depot is showing $899 (- 100 OD rebate - 100 Toshiba rebate), do you think that if I go back to the CC store, they will honor a PM against the OD $899 price? I haven't called around, but OD's website shows that this is out-of-stock locally, but I can get it online.

Any experience/suggestions on this?

Don't know if this helps you or not, but Circuit City did a price match for me today on a Compaq 710us at compusa. CompUsa has a $150 MIR which Circuit City discounted off their price so that the net amount at circuit city was the same as the cusa price after the mir ($950). Circuit City also has 12 mos same as cash on all laptops. Not sure whether they carry the toshiba, but might be worth a shot.

I thought I got a pretty good deal till I read this thread.

This week, circuit city has (2) $100 rebates for the toshiba. But, their price before rebates is $1099.99

If someone find a creative way to take advantage of Circuit City's dual $100 rebates, please post.
Or better yet start a new thread.
Circuit City will pricematch, BUT, Office Depot's price is now $1099.99 with only $100 rebate.

Just got my notebook and wanted to update people. I think the screen is perfectly fine, although a brightness control would be nice. I don't think it is fuzzy, but you can fiddle with the tilt of screen to get it just right. Installed one extra PNY 256 memory and it works great. Below is the thread for deal about this PNY memory at Circuit City for around $70 after rebate.

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=736534&STARTPAGE=1

Also got the IBM Firewire card at Computer Geeks for $26. This also works fine with my camera and the external Firewire/USB case that I also got at Geeks. So now I can edit videos on my notebook and use a 7,200 rpm 45GB drive in the external enclosure. I haven't tried editing directly from the laptop drive, but this might be kind of dicey, as notebook drives are not known for performance.

So I got the notebook for $750 AR including WA tax. The extra memory was $72 AR and with tax. The Firewire controller and external case were about $95 which included shipping. 40GB 7,200 rpm drives can be had for around $85 at Newegg. Add this all up and it totals $1002 for a pretty flexible editing system. Who says you need a Sony Vaio for tons more money.

SimMike2,

You *can* adjust the display brightness, using a couple of different methods:

1) Hold Fn key (the one at lower left of keyboard), and press up arrow or down arrow for brighter/dimmer.

2) Adjust the default display brightness in the Toshiba power management applet.

Not a bad laptop for the price. Wish it had network connection however and a different type of latch that is easier to open.

I printed out the $799 price from Amazon's website and also the Bestbuy screenshots of the $799 price, took it down to Staples, got the 110% pricematch. They price match it to $999 from $1099 and then you get 110% of the difference, so $109.99 off, then they have some $200 off code they run, so it ends up being $789 - $100 rebate = $689 + local sales tax.
