The $10 shipping and NY sales tax kills it for me. My total would be $137.71. Still not bad at all.

BTW, the external Toshiba is $129.99 at Microcenter. Additionally there's a $5 off $25 coupon directly on their site. The Toshiba external can easily be disassembled and retains the full 3 year warranty. The only difference is it comes with a 64MB cache buffer instead of 128 MB like the internal.

Both the internal ($129.95) and external ($139.95) seem like excellent deals for 5 TB drives @ 7200 rpm. I'm not sure if the external is shuck-able though, so be careful getting that one if you plan to use it internally. Many newer external drives have firmware that cripples them if you take them out of the husk and install them internally.

Oxides, Amazon is terrible about having all their reviews mushed together when there's different color options / size options for a product. ( Think Flash Drive sizes, HDD sizes, etc. ) Some day they might fix it...?

Sorry to hear. Was the drive even able to spin up, complete a full format or surface scan?

I personally decided to stay clear from drives spinning at 7200RPM with SMR platters above 1TB. Too much additional vibration and heat for very little benefit.

The drive spun up but wasn't recognized. When I tried to Initialize it, I got an IO error :/ I thew in a different new drive I had laying around & initialized / formatted it, no problem
