Howdy all. I ordered a new laptop for our church to be used in a worship service running MediaShout (live wallpapers, lyrics, 480 videos, audio etc...) and it arrived today. I'm setting it up as we speak. Just wanted some pro advice on the bloatware.

The laptop is very nice and quite fast I'm pleased.

What I'm not pleased with, and knew this going in with all the laptops I've bought, is the TOSHIBA bloatware. Is any of this software integrated with Win7 programs? I want to get rid of it all I'll list it here tell me what you think.

Toshiba app place
Toshiba app installer
Toshiba assist
Toshiba book place
Toshiba bulletin board
Toshiba disk creator
Toshiba eco utility
Toshiba face recognition
Toshiba hardware setup
Toshiba HDD/SSD alert
Toshiba laptop setup
Toshiba media controller
Toshiba media controller plug-in
Toshiba online backup
Toshiba pc health monitor
Toshiba quality application
Toshiba recovery media creator
Toshiba reeltime
Toshiba service station
Toshiba sleep utility
Toshiba supervisor password
Toshiba value added package
Toshiba webcam application
Toshiba registration

OMGosh! lol. If it were my PC I'd just do a nice clean install of Win7. The chances of the church needing any of these is slim to none. Well more likely zero. What I'm wondering is if for instance I remove the "Toshiba Sleep Utility" is it integrated with Win7's ability to set a power scheme? Is any of this crap actually needed? I don't want to fubar anything as this laptop DID NOT come with a re-installation CD of Win7 although I do have one from another build. Please advise and thanks!

I would just go into msconfig, stop all the toshiba services, shut down and restart, run the windows programs you will be using for the church, if all runs well just delete all that unholy "crap"!

Don't do anything rash with recovery media creator until you've used it to create the series of restore DVD's you'll need to restore the laptop in case of a HD failure. There is no windows disk provided with Toshiba's. Without those disks made and stored you'll be out of luck. You can purchase them through Toshiba for only so long and then they are unavailable.

Not all of those are in msconfig so you won't be able to shut them all down from there. Some are just programs that will only launch when clicked on. Shut down what you want through msconfig and if they really bother you in the Programs listing, you can always remove the shortcut so you don't have to look at them. Not everything will be available from the Toshiba site, some will have to be restored through your backup disks and I'm not certain they can be selectively restored.

I'm actually with you on the clean-up, I just wanted to point out that there are other options to nuking them from orbit.

Don't do anything to the laptop untill you created a set of restore DVD's. You can get more info about this if you read the book that came with it. As for messing around with msconfig never mess around with it. Unless you know for sure what you are doing.

Since you said its for the church and not for your self. I would leave it the way it is and give it to the Church.

Thanks for all the advice people. I ended up researching what each program did then disabled their respective startups in msconfig. I'm comfortable in msconfig was just shouting out to anyone who by chance might have had a similar experience with a Toshiba product. About 90% of those programs I listed don't start now with a reboot, but are still available to run manually. Sped it up quite a bit. Am already backing it up and have a restore point for an "out-of-the-box" restore. I'll also create a series of restore DVD's with the Toshiba recovery media creator. Appreciate the input!
