Toshiba cable modem $50 AR comcast area BB NEW SIGN-UPS ONLY

Don't rush out to buy the D-Link cable modem if you have or are going to get Comcast cable modem service. I just got off the phone with their tech support and was told it WILL NOT WORK with Comcast's cable modem network. There are also no plans to support it in the future.

I guess I'll take it back to Best Buy and get the Toshiba or something else. Tech support said the Motorola, RCA and Toshibas all work.

Just a word of warning to save you a trip to Best Buy. (And, of course, I have to wonder why Best Buy is even selling the D-Link in this area. It's not like we have a choice of cable/cable internet providers. We get Comcast or nothing.)

Not only that, they advertise them as a package kind of thing. Page 29 of the current add:

"Free D-link modem and get $20 cash back after rebates
Plus get free service for one month*
when you buy this dlink modem, get your quickstart kit and sign up for comcast service at bestbuy."
Then there's a picture beside it showing the Comcast logo, the Dlink box, and quick start kit box all together.

Another thing, seems I've heard Comcast will tell people a modem won't work even when it might really work. ?

i just went to best buy in moorestown NJ, and bought the modem for $149, thinking that it would spit out a $100 rebate..
NO GO.

I also had the $4.99 quickstart kit, but i had to sign up at BB to buy that..
so the cashier wouldnt let me have it..

anyways, some1 print out their receipt or something so we can get in on this..

I don't have comcast myself, but have read messages in the past about their stubborn tech support. Obviously they have no clue what they are talking about. Its probably outsourced to some 3rd party call center.

Personally I think these internet cable providers don't want you using your own modem because they want to charge you extra for theirs.

Comcast is in my area but they dont service my area, ONLY Cox communications.

Any one know if i can get the rebate without signing up with Comcast? Or maybe get the deal through COX

Thanks for posting this. I'm gonna get the Toshiba tommorow. It's almost twice as fast as the Motorola due to the controller chip it uses.
