For another $150 you could up the RAM to a decent amount a get a second 733 pentium. Although, a 733 pentium would indicate 133mhz BUS speed, kinda odd for an intel BX board. Not sure what that means.

Can't run IDE drives except in PIO mode.

No AGP.

Requires registered SDRAM (slower).

It does have it's benefits as a pure fileserver, but it's not great for everything. In many cases a BX board would be better. For a 3d workstation, you really want to be able to use a good AGP card, and unless you start looking at $300 SCSI drives IDE is the way to go for workstation use.

I have 3 of the 500D servers I got from egghead at $499 each.

Its a great server or workstation. No VRM needed for dual CPU, AGP slot, full IDE compatibility.

I am running one as a server, dual 700 and one as a workstation single 700, and the third was raped and pillaged of its memory, hard drive and CPU and no lives its pitiful existence as a backup in case one of the others fails.

This is pretty hot for those that did not get in on the Gateway deal. Also, $9.95 shipping. That is HOT.

Larger base drive than the 6400.
MUCH better video than the 6400.

just a thought, but wouldnt running IDE RAID controllers at ata100 solve that serverworksIII 'problem'?

I know that is what im doing right now, and it works GREAT! (raid-0 on two pair of 75GXP 45GB drives, two arrays of two each on two different controllers)
