IMO these things suck. the quality of the screen backlight is horrid. this is in comparison to my AXIM.

Okay, admittedly I'm being lazy here, but can someone tell me...

Can you connect the E335 to an 802.11b wireless network?
What's the best way to back up the data on these?
What kind of memory expansion do these handle?

Thanks!

I have a e335 and the screen is really nice....

the size is better than the axim. I work with a lot of people that bought the axim, and they carry it around in their hands because it's too big for a shirt pocket. The e335 fits perfectly.

The reason these are being discounted lately is because the E350 is out, and it has the new intel chip that has twice the bus speed (processor still is 300mhz).

I'd recommend the e335, especially at $125!!

hmm, maybe I got a dud then...

So on the bottom of your screen there isn't a bright light going all the way across that is used to light up the display?
If held horizontally, with the top of the unit against something, it is like a dim flashlight.

I'll take pics when I get home in an hour and a half.

I have this ppc and its awesome.... I don't really have any complaints about the screen. I mean if you're trying to use it outdoors at noon then yeah its not going to be bright enough, but indoors I think this this is more than bright enough. But don't forget that the more brighter you have it, the more battery life you kill- its a trade off. the only complaint that i hear frequently is that if you get this thing to 0% battery life then you lose everything, but that is easily dealt with... buy an sd and save frequently, and just don't use the ppc again when it gets down to 10-15%. Wait til you get home and charge it so that you can use it again the next day. Fully charged I get about 4-6 hours of continual usage. So you'd have to be a maniac on a certain day to use up that much life.

Hope this helps.

I picked up one of these today. The smallness is good is compared to my Maestro although I lose some expandability.

I had an e740 for awhile, and I liked the flexibility but I still don't understand why people would want to surf on a PPC. The formatting of a web page just isn't very friendly to the smaller PPC screen. The main thing I used the e740 for....war driving. Once I found an active network I popped out my lappy.

My main uses for PPC in order of functions I use on a dialy basis:

Avantgo (love this - any downtime and I can read the local paper or catch up on news.com)
Contacts and scheduling
Games
MP3 Player
Divx movies

actually, in sunlight you don't need brightness. i have an axim, and i basically turn the brightness all the way down. and it shows up great in bright sunlight

Great deal for $125 (or less).

However, you need to be aware of why all of these cheaper PocketPC deals are surfacing. The new MS operating system PocketPC 2003 is coming out within a month or so. It is supposed to be much better in terms of wireless support etc than 2002. Pocket Internet Explorer 2003 is supposed to be much better for wireless surfing, for example.

As I understand it, it isn't really easy to upgrade op systems in the PocketPC -- they have to be configured by the mfg (I may be wrong here).

I have a Tosh 740 and have been unimpressed with the screen in daylight. I'm taking it back and waiting for the Dell X7, which will probably come out with the new operating system.

For more info go to www.brighthand.com.

Any way you look at it though, $125 for a color PDA is a killer deal.

Microsoft says that every PPC2k2 is upgradable. They all use flash rom, and if OEMs don't make upgrades, the consumers can push them and show them this page. Perhaps, the universal rom that MS makes for 03 may work across many devices just like 2003 EUU3 worked without OEM modifications on many PDAs.

I was worried about this also. But I ended up getting one and it's not bad at all! The e335/330 also have special features that other PPC's don't have like SDIO, a USB adapter so it can accept USB devices (some other PPC's do this, but not many. Add this with the USB mass storage driver and a 256 MB card and you have a great digital wallet for your camera), they have one of the longest range IR's of any PPC, so they're great for universal remotes and PPC to PPC games...I like it

Wow!! Good work with all the pics dude.

I got mine for like 80 Bucks, if both the $ 100 rebates come through so I wont complain about the brightness and all that.

But man the difference in color is HUGE, Its like watching a Plasma Tv and the other is an 10 yr old analog piece. I still don't understand the point you are making about light on the bottom?

Hmm...you seem to have a larger gap than I have at the bottom of the screen. Mine DEFINATELY does not have that much fade out at the top of the screen. Maybe your screen is slightly skewed inside the case or something. The colors are a bit washed, but I don't really care about that.

I thought this was a PDA, not a flashlight

if you have one of these please respond as I either need to be sending in the rebates or taking this back!!

After seeing your pics and comparing them to my e335 yours is definately too dim on the top ... mine only fades a very little at the angle that you had yours in. While yours was light black on the top, mine was white with a very light haze.

I'd consider taking yours back and asking for an exchange before your 30 days are up.

I bought one too and I have no problems with the screen. I performs the same as your describing. That is just how the unit fills the screen with light. I have a theory that this also makes the unit thinner by overlayer the light and the screen on the same plane. The e335 is ~40% thinner that the Axim 5.

I don't own a Axim, but I have read reviews and it gets allot of great feedback on the screen. But hey for 80 dollars, and my screen is clear. I can't complain.
