havent done too much researching on prices .... any second opinions before i bite?

Compgeeks has this for 249.99 (refurb), I here that the screen is not the best, though i've never seen on myself, also it doesn't look like toshiba will be releasing the wm2003 upgrade for the 740, but for 250, its seems like a pretty good deal. (compgeeks also has the 310 for 158). The amazon price seems pretty good for a new unit as its basicly $280 if you use the promo

Just a word of warning.

Toshiba has repeatedly said that there is no PocketPC 2003 upgrade for the e740.
Its a decent unit for 250.00, but not upgradeable.

I also will try never to buy a toshiba product again. I have owned a e740 as an early adopter, lived through their buggy roms, had to get rom fixes from Europe because their US support stinks. Now I cannot upgrade to the new OS, even though this was their "flagship" PDA.

Everyone who's used both say that its like night and day between the e740 and the e755...i'd stay away from the e740...do your research. LOTS OF ANGRY e740 users out there... Brighthand. I ordered the e755 last week...should come in a few days.

Hmm for that difference id go with the new one at $280 as well.

I've owned this PDA so here's my $.02

The screen is very decent, of all reflective screen PDA's this one is actually very nice, much better then Ipaq 3800 series, but not as nice as new transreflective screens. Nevertheless, it was very readable and sharp.

I have never had problem with that PDA.

So what if there's no upgrade to 2k3 version? How would it add to the functionality? It won't, you will not notice anything different. Not to mention, 2k3 is plagued with problems, so much so that Dell had to halt all it's shipments.

Reading through the CompGeeks refurb features and found "SPECIAL NON-WIFI VERSION". With no 802.11b on board, definitely go for the new one instead. I have the e740 and am totally satisfied with it. On board WIFI, SD and CF slots for expansion, a great screen all in a compact form factor. e750 is not worth twice as much just to be able to run PPC2k3.

REALLY? Would you like to bet on that? Do your research first.
Read some of the Brighthand forums.

The processor in your e740 (and mine) is not fully optimized under PPC2002, it's been a well known fact for a while.

So far the ONLY cool thing about e740 is that Office Depot is selling an extended battery for $48 (which is RECALLED BTW).
You buy the battery (+ use your choice of coupon), then call Toshiba and they will ship you a new one overnight! You do not need to return the recalled battery which has been working fine for me.

Either way, read the Petition it will pretty much tell you why you should stay away from Toshiba junk.

Toshiba has terrible tech. support in general. The Wi-FI on the toshiba eats up the battery life like crazy. I'd go for the 2210, but that student deal is dead now.
