Toshiba laptop for $599 at bestbuy starting 8/1

Just a head ups... i work at best buy and i already saw the ad for next week... do not buy this toshibia... there's a better deal for a better toshiba tomorrow...

its the toshibia blah blah s126 i think ($999 normal price)... it has 2.7 celeron, 15inch screen, b/g wifi built in, 60gb hard drive and 256 ram

for $699 after rebates you will get that laptop plus an additional chip of 256 ram and free install so your ram will get bumped up to 512... you also get a basic laptop bag and a lexmark printer... the out the door price was like $1200 something and about $400 in rebates... its a great deal if you dont mind the rebates... $100 more than the current toshiba deal is gonna get you wifi, 20gb more hard drive, double the ram, a printer and a laptop bag....

unfortunately i didn't find out about this new deal today when i went into work... theres a 14 day return policy... i think theres a restocking fee - your best bet is to say something is wrong with it - something vague and hope they dont check it out - or if they offer say "no this laptop has left a bad taste in my mouth let me try another model" or something like that.

This is true. If there is something wrong with the laptop there is no restocking fee and you will get 100% refund as long as its in the 14 days. Best thing to do it to make something wrong with the laptop. Maybe your non removable cdrom dosnt read CDs anymore becasue "something" happen to it or maybe it even dosnt bootup anymore....what I getting at is break it in a way that it dosnt look physically damaged and you will be able to return it with no restocking fee....simple as that. I know I used to work for bestbuy.

If you want to take back last weeks laptop, just point out that last weeks ad stated that the laptop came with a DVD-RW. Since it does not have a DVD-RW drive and you are deeply disappointed and feel violated by the deception, you want to return it with no restocking fee. It helps if you have a copy of last weeks ad-it worked like a charm for me. (that was one sloooow laptop even after adding an extra 512 of ram).

I'm also curious about this, is the mobo socket 370 or socket 478? If I can replace the Celeron with a P4 I'm gonna be all over this.

Its a P4-based Celeron S478. And from what I am able to gather, Toshiba does not put Desktop P4's in this motherboard line. They use only true Mobile P4 processors.

I seem to recall someone got a 400FSB 2.4G P4 to work in the S121 Rebate Deal from Memorial Day but a 533FSB 3GHz P4 would crash, both Desktop models. So either the 3GHz was getting too hot, or demanded more current than the motherboard is able to reliably provide.

My parents just bought me the A65-S1062. However, I noticed that the S126 is a better deal, in my opinion. Unfortunately, Best Buy seems to already be out of stock of these. Am I out of luck? Does anyone working at BB know if another Toshiba deal is coming up soon? Thanks!

HOLY FREAK!!

I bought the Toshiba S121 Memorial Day Rebate Deal @ Best Buy, not to mention a bunch of other rebate deals. I got lazy and put-off sending out rebates for the Toshiba notebook, thinking I had plenty of time. By the time I got back around to it, I had missed the postmark deadline by TWO DAYS. e.g. must be postmarked by 7/15/04 and I dropped them in the mail 7/17/04 (not the actual dates, just an example of what I mean). I figured, might as well try it, worst they can say is 'too bad for you'.

Much to my surprise, I just received a check for $150 and another $100 - Woot!
