Toshiba makes some good laptops. I've handled a Qosmio (how do you pronounce it again? kosmio?) before, and it was big, but it felt like a nice laptop. I do believe they're expensive, though.

The Qosmio laptops have lots of cool features, such as built-in tv tuner, dual hard drives and a decent dedicated graphics card. However this is most likely overkill for the typical user. What do you plan to do with your laptop?

Qosmio lappies are good but I'm using a last generation A45-S120 Toshiba and it SUCKS. I'm satisfied with performance since I'm just the average user, but
it's just that it BREAKS EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!(no its not viruses or spyware now) First time it was a virus, ok my fault, second time virus again, third time i learn and pay for good software, in 2 months of purchasing this laptop the hard drive fails, the power brick fails, dust clogs up the heatsink and overheats and i had to clean it out(now i have to clean it again), keyboard keys not working(like ctrl and esc, using saitek eclipse) mini-pci slot now almost broken, screen is almost falling off, overall BAD laptop. NEVER EVER buy toshiba.

Not sure about the Qosmio, but I've handled Satellite L25's and A75's. Cheap laptops... half cap batteries and minimal battery life (L25), frequent hardware issues: overheating, dying hard drives, general instability, mobo that needed to be fixed or replaced, (A75).

What kinds of things are you planning to do with a laptop? Qosmios are expensive and bulky. It may be a better idea to get a cheaper, sleeker laptop then hook it up to an external desktop drive (much cheaper way of getting more storage), and to get an external monitor if you want the screen real estate.

Thanks for the replies guys

The laptop is more for my wife as i have a pc (P4 3.4 - 2gig ddr2 ram - X800XT etc)

She has an online business and im tired of her constantly interrupting me while im doing work (BF2) . So she will be mainly using it for Outlook and IE etc.

BUT, i dont want to go get a low spec laptop as i too want to use it too for work (IT Tech support/Server administration) i probably have a few vmware sessions loaded on it.

One of the reasons why i considered this laptop is the nice unplain design and some quality components like the vcard, sound card, speakers etc.

I really wanted to go for the Tecra A7, as it meets all my needs, excpet for one factor as it doesnt have the alloy case - so i might have to bite the bullet and go for the A7. The M5 has the alloy case and identicial specs (sound abit better) but unfortanetly its not widescreen.

On the other hand, the Qosmio is 4.5kg! so its a bit heavy.

so you are going to carry it around a bit? if it's just going to sit on your desk, I would just get a desktop. If it's only being carried around occasionally, get a E1705 as I've been carrying around my 8lbs(+1lb power brick)toshiba for a while and it wasn't all that bad in my opinion. If you want lighter, get an E1505 and you should still get great performance even for some more advanced apps.
