Theres always the free after rebate external USB floppy drives from hp-at-home.com Its like $50 + $5 shipping and a $50 mail in rebate.
It's S-Video. This lappie is great. Much lighter and smaller than my ze5000 (got the 15" SXGA). Mom wanted a $300 computer but this is sooo much better. Course I had to do the waiting in line...Originally posted by: treidenb
I wish an old floppy drive would work, but it doesn't look like it will. I'm surprised how expensive some of those old external drives can be($70-$120). I found a site that showed old drives, but it doesn't look like there is a port on this new model. I don't know what is along the right side next to the PCMCIA cards though, if anything, but it isn't on the back or left side.
Also, in BestBuy's description(the link is at the beginning of the thread) it says that their is no internal floppy, but if you click the photo for the "expansions/drives" it shows a floppy in the front of the system.
Someone had also asked about the TV-out. Does anyone know if it is S-Video or just a yellow Composite output?

per phatwallet forums, pricematch it (with amex if it does Best value guarantee) to microcenter's price here to bring the price down to $400 after rebates
It would be very tough to price match as BB throws in a Linksys wireless PC card in the package. If you successfully price matched, please let us know.
I noticed a deak pixel on the LCD. What is BB's policy to exchange it?

wow that's not bad at all, especially if you're in need of something to take notes on ect, definitly not gaming. Tempting, but I don't really need it, hehe. If this deal is available now, I wonder what we may see in the future...
And on the BB extended warrenty thing, the employees are actually required to offer it to every customer, it's store policy, it gets really annoying really fast.

I went today to try and buy at around 10AM. The salesman was all over me trying to sell the service plan and some accesories. And told me if I buy 4 accesories he would take 15% off their price. Well, I just checked my reciepts and he took 15% off my entire ticket. So I got the laptop for $940 because the free network card didnt ring up free and then he took the 15% off which dropped it down to $799.42. Means I got this sucker for only $299.42 after rebates!!!!!!

Yeah.. my friend and I got one from Queens. I had to get up at 8:30am. It was a LONG and UNCERTAIN 3 hour wait and I was the next to last guy. They got received 18 locally. There were 3 other guys behind me waiting just as long.. so the other 2 must've went home PISSED. It comes out to $580 BUT the guys were trying to sell me on the 3 yr service plan for $200. I said "It's not worth paying 35% the cost of the notebook and there are tons of exclusions and crap it doesn't cover"
BUT it actually had a clause for normal wear and tear (batteries, drive, kb, etc) and if the product can't be repaired the replace it. If the product has been worked on 3 times.. they replace it. And not for the $500 dollar cost.. for $1000. Plus if they go out of business it's underwritten by AIG and would still be honored. So.. I was interested.. still I said the price was too high. "We'll take off 100 dollars from the laptop".... SOLD! I figured it was worth 9 cents a day for 3 years of insurance.
Plus I was planning on getting a wireless networking card anyhow (50-60 bux)
680 after rebates... with the 3 year. Wish someone posted the ad from the place that was selling it for $899.. would've been super sweet if I could've gotten more $$ off but... I'm content.

Xmas came much earlier for me this year I went to the BB in West Convina, CA about 8:20 this morning, and there were 7 people ahead of me. I got the 8th ticket for the right to buy this lappy. It turned out that they had only six of the S103 in store, and they decided to upgrade to the S173 to the last four people :Q. I was one of the four lucky ones
The S173 has a bigger screen (15'), bigger HD (30G). It has a faster Celeron CPU, and also came with Floppy drive and DVD/CDRW burner combo .... On top of everything, I also got the free Linksys wireless PCMCIA card, and I paid $850+tax for the whole deal. They gave me an additional instant credit of $150 to account for the BB rebate for this model being $150 less than the S103. The net cost is still ~$500+tax, but I only have to worry about $350 worth of rebate instead of $500.
Merry Xmas to all.
Time for me to make baby now

Sorry for not contributing folks. I figure this time is as good as ever. I was trying to get in on the deal but they were sold out in San Diego (nat'l city store). Later that day, some other shoppers told me that it is a desktop cpu that cannot be upgraded. The unit itself is not made by Toshiba. It's just their name stamped on it.
For those of you that did get it and plan to keep it, I strongly encourage you to get the store warranty. I'm not too familiar with their warranty service but I figure it has got to be better than CompUSA.
Believe it or not your customers don't care if you keep your job or get fired, it sucks to have an ESP forced down our throats everytime we shell out a bunch of money, only to try and be persuaded to fork over more. Best Buy doesn't want to make sure our products are working correctly within 3yrs, they just want the money and to make it worse the sales reps make it sound like we're morons for not paying for a one. Everything I have bought from Best Buy including a Wega, Xbox, PS2, head unit, PC (it was my first, P166 ), etc... have never needed an ESP. I've saved hundreds, am I the moron or is it the people who tried to sell me the warranties? Not saying ESP's are bad ideas, just that the pressure to buy them is irritating and condescending. They honestly work harder to sell us the warranty more than the product, which says something about the quality of what they sell. If BB threatens to fire you if you don't sell enough ESPs I would quit in a heartbeat. [/rant]Originally posted by: Undeniable
its called keeping my job....we are there to sell, not to stock shevles and clean. Well, Im not but some inventory and merch ppl are.

On the issue of the desktop processor, according to intel documents, no 1.5GHz desktop celeron is produced, only a 1.5GHZ mobile celeron. Also as mentioned on FW, people have run CPU ID on the laptop and it reports it as being a mobile processor.

This is only if the CPU ID program was correct. Unless someone is willing to open up their machine and have a picture taken of the CPU then definitive evidence is lacking.
The intel product lines can be seen here and here
