Thanks for the heads up. I was too late to buy this week's laptop, but maybe next week's deal will be better

No small switch on the front. I assume you are talking abt the area where the screen latches to the keyboard+body? The latch is a bit flimsy. There is an odd "button" like area near the PCMCIA slot on the right side of the laptop. Looks like there should be a real button there, but it has a cap.

BTW, just realized that there is only one PCMCIA slot :-(
A good reason to get an internal antenna if this laptop takes it.

Has anyone tried to wipe the laptop clean to reinstall XP only? How did you do it?

Man, I was so excited when people started talking bout some "secret compartment" for wireless! But I don't think it has it. All I see is the battery, the door for memory, and off to the upper right side is the HD. Here's a picture of the bottom of it: link

Sorry to get people's hopes up.

Here's what you would be looking for:

Bottom door

Wireless switch

wireless card

As I said above, my A15-S127 makes no mention of this port in the manual or specs, but there it was, just waiting for a mini PCI card to be popped in and connected to the existing antenna. You might keep an eye out for these feaures in the next laptop sale.

the new toshiba laptops use a fn(function) key + f6(or something) key combination to turn on and off the wireless.

Personally I wouldn't blame the customer for this. I would say its the stores fault for having so few in the first place. BestBuy seems good at doing this.

Does anyone know if laptops like this, are capable of playing games? Or are only the higher priced ones capable of playing games such as Everquest?

I noticed the graphic card on this is just a shared one "Intel® Extreme Graphics with 16-64MB DVMA shared video memory"

I believe this S111 is very similiar to the S109 that was $499 last black friday. There was a thread at notebook forums (link) where someone tore apart their laptop only to find:
If you have an M35X-S109 (the one from BestBuy day after Thanksgiving) don't bother looking because the mini-PCI header nor the wireless antenea's have been installed. You can see the pads on the mainboard where the plastic mini-PCI header would go but it is simply not there.
By the way the placement for the missing wireless adapter for this series would be under the keyboard if it was there.

I am using the Toshiba laptop right now

I will not even attempt to play a 3D game in this laptop
integrated graphics = no 3D games

the only 3D action that I will see are prerendered graphics from DVDs and the like

You find 8 laptops each MINIMUM for 650 stores, price them well below MSRP, and tell me you wouldn't be low on stock too. Its not the stores fault at all. Good deals are almost always 'first come first serve'...the hotter the deal, the earlier you have to get there, regardless of the store. Blaming the store for this is like blaming the 10 customers who waited in line that morning and got theirs. I bet they don't think its unfair they waited and got them huh.

^^ Everquest? You're kidding right? With that laptop you'd better stick to solitaire.

I expected this kind of reply from you since you work for BestBuy. This is BestBuy's old trick of luring customers into the store with very limited stock for frontpage sale items. People don't appreciate wasting their gas and time. 8 per store is not many, and the total number of stores means nothing, since you are a huge retail chain.

I didn't even wait in line, in fact I didn't even try going to a store. I was just stating a fact.

Its unlikely I would buy a laptop from Bestbuy anyways, due to how they ripped me off in my last Printer purchase (they stole my $30 gift card). Unfortunetly I also have a $40 gift card I received from someone and BestBuy won't give me cash for that either... Bestbuy can't get a much lower rating on resellerratings.com.

8 per store is quite a few considering the type of product you are talking about. You forget to mention that more will be shipped to each store during the week as well. As for wasting time, if you KNEW something was limited in quantity, and KNEW it was going to be a hot item, it would seem logical to call ahead to see if they have it and/or will hold it for you, no? It's not a 'trick' when all the information needed is right there on the front page of the flyer. Far be it for some people to actually read it for once.

"Old Trick"? Its sales, name one BM electronics chain that doesn't do this.. "OOS" is one thing we commonly see on these forums for this reason.

It's also interesting you call it stealing. You returned a printer, they refused to honor the free gift card you got with it. If you return the item, you forfeit the rebates with it too (which in this case would be the $30 gift card). You said it yourself, you returned the printer, which means you should have returned the gift card too, hence why it was null and void....

BestBuy.com does not honor their ads. I placed an order online (with instore pickup) for a printer that has a mail in $30 gift card. However I had to return the printer (after the gift card offer date) because it was defective.
...right off resellerratings where you posted your review.

Was at Best Buy yesterday to take a look at the laptops. I had to stand around and wait 45 freakin minutes before someone could even talk to me. Of course during that time, someone else bought the last S111. It will be a LONG time before I set foot in Worst Buy again.

Now your ticking me off. Just shows what jerks BestBuy employees are. This IS stealing, anyone with any common sense can see that. YOU sold me a defective printer, I returned it to exchange it for another one, and then I lose out on the free mail in gift card. YOUR employees insisted I had to return it (get a refund) before I could get a new one, instead of just swapping it out like ANY other store does.

Your a perfect example of why resellerratings has such an extremely low rating for Bestbuy .72 is the lowest I have ever seen any store on there. Several states have lawsuits against BestBuy for their business practices... by the state attorneys.

BTW, how nice of you not to quote my entire statement on resellerratings to twist it to say what you wanted it to say. FACT is I said I did a return/exchange. Here is the part you convieniantly left out.

"They refuse to honor the gift card because I returned/exchanged the printer at a local store. Yet their own webpage specifically says "Exchanges can only be made at a BestBuy store within the United States". "

It sure is if you're the first customer to come in seven hours after the store opened and it specifically stated that there were only going to be 8 in any given store. God forbid someone get it before you. As stated above in the first quote, he said 'before anyone COULD talk to me'. Some places are busy, some aren't... some places have jerks, i wont deny that. SOMEONE will lose out when there are limited quantities. LIMITED quantities means not everyone will get one, you fail to still see that point.

Wow according to this, I personally sold you a printer, when in fact you bought it ONLINE. Your way with words leaves a little to be desired. I was not online chatting to you selling you jack. I did not return jack for you, and last time i checked i was not a store manager so MY employees (which i have none) did not return anything either. Your scope of the company I work for is extremely narrow. You and the lawsuits represent a small portion of the entire population that shops at Best Buy, and yet you talk like the majority. You keep pointing to resellerratings, when in the past six months there are only 52 reviews. 52 reviews, with 1500-2000 customers DAILY per store seems like very few. Look at circuit city or walmart. People like YOU seem to think that a sampling purely from resellerratings is accurate. With your logic, walmarts rating of 5.17 is 'awesome' compared to best buy, with a whole 15 reviews in the past 6 months, when an average store does what, 6000 customers a DAY?

I think you've just proved what an ass you are. You know dang well what I'm talking about when I say "YOU"=BestBuy because you work for them and are defending them.

I will say no more on this. Your like every typical BestBuy employee trying to rip someone off.

I just gotta find a good deal on a wifi card now .
