Staples has got this laptop for $ 1299.98 (Item No. 519832)
apply a $150 coupon (code: 33480 while check out
there is a $50 rebate on this rebate form with free shipping
this is a very good deal as far as Toshiba laptops are considered.
you can get similar once in Dell.
I would prefer Toshiba over Dell.

at most of the locations they do deliver it next day but some times its 2-3 days.
and Staples is very good in fullfilling rebates. (most of time I have received my staples rebate within one month)

Are you referring to the Inspiron 5150? Isn't that deal dead -- or is there a new deal I just haven't pounced on yet?

Personally I'm not crazy about the laptop's design but price/performance ratio seems to be good.

If you don't mind a little less power but more portability (lighter weight) I would check out the
Inspiron 500m notebook w/ PentiumM-1.4GHz, 14.1" XGA, 256MB DDR, 20GB, DVD, Modem, NIC, XP Home for $1018 - $150 instant discount - $75 Dell coupon = $793.

Inspiron 500m and 600m are the good once I like in Dell. These are portable and fast compared to high processing (P-4) units, and make less noise then the regular once that have there fan running all the time, which makes a lot of noise. And these don?t get hot as much as the regular once.

RossMAN, how do you get this deal? Dell does not seem to sell Inspiron500m, only 600m. For the 600m, there is no instant $150 (I did add to the cart!). I don't know about the $75 coupon, maybe it does work maybe not..., there is the $200 mail-in though... But it is nowhere near $793 after all of the discounts.

Anyone have a better deal on this model? I want the Wifi module, Toshiba's site sells the unit for another $100 more with the wifi option built in.

I have to say i have seen some pretty good toshy laptops " almost looked identical to some of dells "; very high end.
this does not look high end visually, but the stats do look good , cept the video. I recently sold my 5-6 year old dell laptop for 300 and ive been holding out for a nice deal. Other than the last dell 649 laptop have yet to see another good deal, anyone care to tell me where the latest good deal with minimal stats but at least good video and 15" lcd, i can upgrade everything else myself.

i dont know why people complain about desktop cpus in laptops so much, its really not that bad
and also... pentium4m by no means has 4x longer battery life. 2x tops.
Even if you ment pentium M / centrino, 4x is still probablly pushing it. that laptop pulls average 3 hours...

I just wouldn't ever buy a system with a Trident Video card. I am sorry, but the ATI 9600 mobile and GeForce x Go chipsets COMPLETELY and UTTERLY DESTROY the trident. If all you ever want to do on the laptop is spreadsheets, word and email, then trident is ok. If you want to do ANY kind of games, it just sucks compaired to its competitors. I don't even know why it would be in this laptop to begin with, as the ATI and GeForce products are not that much more expensive, just a little more power hungry.

Not to knock Toshiba any more that we have successfully done here, the 2-3 I've seen that are less than year old have subpar battery life compared to Dell. My 5150 (which doesnt even have a P4m) averages about 4 hours of life [on wireless], whereas the model advertised, which my boss just bought about a month ago, only averages around 2 something hours fully charged. Along with the Trident POS, I'd definately put in another vote for Dell.
