Also reads DVDs and CDs so it might not be a bad purchase for someone who wants to watch a few quality movies in hi-def without breaking the bank (since HD-DVD movies are also in bargain bins all over the place).

I think it's a good deal for $20, even if it's a dead technology there is a whole bunch of content out there available for it.

It may look cheap on the surface but you need to buy HD software capable to watch any HD contents.

For the price I'll take PATA.

In fact this might be good, considering my stupid 780i board has issues with SATA optical drives. I'm guessing this is why I can't rip audio CD's using my current SATA only setup so adding this will (hopefully) allow me to rip audio CD's and watch/rip HD-DVD.

I grabbed two for $46 shipped total, probably unload one to a friend leaving $23 shipped for one. Not too shabby.

I was sooo stoked, at first i thought it was a stand alone hd-dvd player. Yup i'm an idiot and I should read the title more carefully!

Still a good deal though...

Just a note here...

You can get the Ultimate version of like PowerDVD or WinDVD, OEM keys for about 10 bucks on ebay.

I'm in for two. I found a coupon for another 10% off: dealtaker I'll keep one to mess around with and sell the other to cover the price of the first. Thanks for the deal.

in 4 1.
with $9 shipping and the 10% off it came to 26.09

Had been looking for a xbox external drive deal, but this is much better. Not as versatile for sure, but i was only going to use it with a htpc anyway so it will be alot neater.
thnx op and marmasatt for the code.

what the hell, my secondary rig could finally get an ODD for a change! dont need two writers (actually 3 now that I got a laptop)

EDIT: in the wake of the recent CC information theft @ geek, I would assume going with paypal payment is safer - thats how I paid for mine anyway. your opininons on that?

Can't figure out how to apply the 10%, don't see a Coupon or other option field.

look harder, there is a red "strip" with a textbox that goes across the page. forgot exactly at which step though, got me wondering about the same thing for a bit to be honest.

Figured it out, you can only apply code during secure checkout, not paypal checkout.

Thanks man. I wasn't sure if I'd pull the trigger, but the coupon sealed the deal. Now I have a backup in case the 360 drive dies.

No problem. Glad I could offer something. You see, I'm generally more of a "taker" than a "giver"...... Are we sure we're gonna get these though? Seems a bit too good to be true-dead format and all.

Well, mine has apparently already been delivered. Very fast for shipping that was supposed to take 6-8 days.
