i have been addicted since i found this, so i figured i'd spread the word. if there are any ATers that play, lmk

The game has an amazing variety of units (like 400) and strategies. you build a bunch of economic and technology buildings and spam defensive structures and robots. its the most complete and fun strategy game i have played to date (yes including all the new games)

At the top off the screen there is a grey (metal) and yellow (energy) bar, these show you how full your storages are. There is a green (income) and red (usage) number next to each. If one or both bars are full, you are wasting resources, so you should be using more of them. Beware, though, because the Commander is ALSO a walking bomb - when he dies, he takes EVERYTHING around him with him.

no. It's Total Annihilation.

Supreme commander = TA2 (for the most part)

TA is one of my favorite games of all time. Some of the mods for SpringTA add some crazy units.

I haven't played much Supreme Commander, just the demo, which was horrible, so I'm not going to pick it up until it's a lot cheaper

for those interested: the original total annihilation and like 3 add ons were released ~1995-2000. there was an online community of players/mapmakers/ unit and mod makers for the game. the company went out of buisness so around 2002 the online community slowly worked on a 3d remake. there are a few competing mods for the spring game engine. (i play absolute annihilation or balanced annihilation, the rest make no sense imo) supreme commander was made by one of the creators of the original TA, mostly the same game. Myself and most taspring players tried it and disliked it because it seemed dumbed down and unbalanced, just like most other strategy games.

I downloaded this last week and have since played a couple of modded games with one of my RL brosefs. I can't believe I sat on Spring for over a year and a half without giving it a solid chance. I guess I was caught up in SupCom fever at the time.

The Spring engine is super versatile and heavily supported mods like NOTA, XTA and Complete Annihilation are terrific and loads of fun.

It's definitely worth the download and is time well spent.

Do you need the original TA for Spring? I would like to find a copy anyway. I played SupCom and watched the TA intro, wondering what all the fuss is about.

No, you don't.

Spring is just TA, except in full 3d, sans music. There is a handy Downloader program included in the installer, which you use to download the mods and maps. You might need to open ports to host a game; the multiplayer lobby has about 40-100 people in it at any given time. There are a couple of AIs you can run too, but I haven't bothered messing about with those. Spring gives all the stuff that SupCom promised but never delivered on.
