Total BS: "Retail Protection" from Bank of America AMEX

So my car was broken into and a gps and radar detector were stolen from the center console. They were hidden, so someone had to see me driving the car at some point (or getting in/out.) Both recently purchased on the BofA amex, which claims to offer "retail protection" against items being lost, damaged, or stolen within 90 days.

So I call the claims dept, and they tell me that "stolen" doesn't include "stolen from a vehicle" but rather means "stolen directly from you under duress." OK, that's absurd enough, to have a policy that only protects your items from being taken directly from your hands.

So I ask if I can have a copy of the terms of the policy faxed to me, and they say no, call your card company for that. So I call the card company, and they tell me to call the claims department for that information.

Anyone know where this information is online? When you sign up for the card it just says 90 days of protection against lost/stolen/damaged items, which, quite frankly, I find incredibly misleading, even moreso without an asterisk explaining the limitations.

edit:
I will say the plain old amex plans are much more accommodating, so maybe I am spoiled. Should have put these things on one of those...

My bet is that it is covered. They're just making it intentionally difficult for you to file a claim so that you'll give up and they won't have to pay it. Find those terms and make sure they aren't effin you.

What's their policy if you lost it? Does it have to be in your hands when you lose it as well?

Tell them it fell out of your car, so you lost it. It also just happen to fall into some thugs hands.

Amex branded cards from BofA are probably going to have a completely different cardmember agreement than a card straight from Amex.

Not /thread, you need to find the one for the card he has.

Thanks.... but thats not the policy, as this is not an "American Express" card, but rather a Bank of America Rewards card, which happens to be issued by AMEX.

Yep

Also OP most banks only offer what the name covers. Most don;t offer anything above that.

BofA approx. = extortion - they have your SSN ! don't pay a disputed
charge and they got you over a barrel, you would have to go to small
claims to clean up your credit.

i just cancelled a BofA-Visa because they hit me with a $30 service
charge 5 months in a row, even though i paid on time. i called them
each time and k'vetched. they "forgave" the fees - until the most
recent time. so they lost a customer. i paid the $30 just to have
them out of my life.

it wouldn't hurt me at all if ATOT was the launching ground for a
class action against BofA.
