honestly i thought the movie was pretty lame.

they really should have just re-released the old one. it would have done better. it was a better movie.

this new one they dont even go to mars. its really NOTHING like the old movie besides the whole part where youre not supposed to know if its a dream or reality. but you do, becasue the movie isnt that good. or scary. the first one freaked me out.

i think this remake gets 5/10.

I think you are blending together two different Stallone movies. Bullock wasn't in Judge Dredd. And Demolition Man was cheesy fun but Judge Dredd was just terrible.

The only remake coming out this year/next year that looks decent is RoboCop.

Demolition Man was pure fun, Judge Dredd sucked.

I loved Demolition Man, it was just a fun movie.

Besides, no one has figured out the 3 sea shells yet

Not a surprise, I would imagine most people wanting to see it (including myself) are / were expecting a modern 'revamp' of the original, which is ultimately hard to top given the fact Arnie is ultimately cooler than Chuck Norris and that Irish guy.

AH, you guys beat me!

The Way Back was indeed good as well.

I like Collin Ferrel. you other guys suck.

He has done well in smaller films but his track record with blockbusters is bad. He also does poorly in situations where he and he alone has to carry the whole movie.

Yeah they have. I read something awhile back where apparently Stallone (I think it was him... or someone else from the movie) said how they're supposed to work. Just think of it this way... two of them are spreaders and one's a scraper.

Yeah I dont know what the fuck they were thinking. Total Recall only did well the fist time because of Arnold. Remaking the movie with someone that has 1/10th or even less the star power(compared to Arnolds peak) was foolish. Thier only hope to come close to breaking even is if it does well over seas, which it might given overseas loves sci-fi movies.

You fail at movies. It did well because it was a great movie. It was directed by the guy who made Robocop.

If the lead role was a non/lesser star, it would not have done nearly as well. There are plenty of great movies that should have been more successful, but weren't because they didn't have the drawing power of say an Arnold at his prime.

Hmm, you might be correct. The original Spider-Man had an opening weekend of 115M and averaged 32K per screen, The Amazing Spider-Man 2012 has half of those figures.

It may also depend on the amount of time between the original and the re-make. If a movie was made 50 years ago, the re-make may do well in the box office.

It seems recent in my memory when Spider-Man 1 was released. Certainly not long enough for me to care about seeing it again.

Back in the golden age of film, you had directors and producers running the studios and making the decisions. Now they hire some guy in a suit with an MBA who once successfully manage a Coca Cola office. Movies are crap today because people who know nothing about the art form are pulling the strings. Hey, it's what made Arnold a star.

Of course then there's the directors who open studios and then turn to the darkside of corporate filmmaking. But I've ranted enough about Lucas.

Nah, remaking Verhoeven is doomed to failure, as this thread shows.

You're right though, it was Diane Lane looking good in Judge Dredd not Sandra Bullock. And it's been 10+ years since I've seen it so it's quite possible that I'm remembering it with a rose-colored Judge visor.

Saw the new one this weekend. It wasn't bad at all really. Was a very similar story, nowhere near as much blood though, that was disappointing. I enjoyed it but it was nothing special, but I never thought the original was anything amazing either. Lots of action and a somewhat decent story. The female leads were nice to look at and the tech was pretty cool.

"Customers don't want to watch the same film they've already watched"

And yet the new Spiderman is doing fairly well in reviews and at the box office.

It's not that I don't agree with your sentiment. There simply appear to be far to many stupid people willing to pay money to see the same move over and over.

Jessica Biel & Kate Beckinsale didn't help sell this movie?
