If the lead role was a non/lesser star, it would not have done nearly as well. There are plenty of great movies that should have been more successful, but weren't because they didn't have the drawing power of say an Arnold at his prime.

It was more than just Arnold's star power for Total Recall though. The film was a mess and going nowhere until Arnold bought the rights and control over it. Then he recruited Verhoeven to work on it and had veto power over all other aspects of the film. He sold it with his star power but it was just a clusterfuck going nowhere until he took it over.

For sure the movie was a box office smash thanks to his name but at least in this instance he is responsible for more than just the advertising.

I guess what I'm saying is you're both right.

The movie was GOOD! It made sense except for two small lapses at the beginning and at the end. He shot a coworker. The coworker friend could have been legit. THE MOVIE IS NOT A PIECE OF CRAP!

I just watched Robocop again yesterday and that film has held up pretty well considering its like 25 years old now. Some of the cars used look wrong (but a ford taurus looked wrong in the 80s) there's the good old "we use a lot of CRTs in the future" problem and the ED-209 scenes stop motion animation is obvious and would look better in CG but otherwise its pretty solid.

I can't think of any movie that starred Colin Farrell that didn't suck.

The instant I saw he was the star I knew it had zero chance. Everything he touches turns to shit.

A movie can sound like it should be good but when he's in it, it always sucks.

I had to fight myself to finish this movie. About three times i wanted to throw in the towel, but somehow held on long enough so that i can now swap war stories with Vietnam POWs about hell on earth, and when they hear my story of pain and suffering, they weep for what i have been through.

Was it the best movie this year? No. Was it enjoyable? Sure.

This is just stupid. Tom Cruise is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood history. Yeah he's nuts but so are most good actors. Collin Farrel is a hack who as untalented as he is has some sort of power over women due to his Irish charm that convince them that he has talent locked away in there that is just waiting to come out. His best movies are 2 mediocre sci-fi flicks of which I barely even remember, Minority Report and Fright Night. The rest of his stuff is crap. Meanwhile Tom Cruise has been in dozens of great movies and carried many of them. He even pulled off one of my favorite comedic performances in Tropic Thunder as the agent. Who knew he could be funny too?

Tom Cruise is not a bad actor but greatest actors in hollywood history is really stretching it, lol. Cruise basically plays himself in every movie, which works for movies he is correctly cast in.
