Pre-production

True, I guarantee it'll still be garbage. I've said years ago that Google won't be lag free until their "H" OS and from what I've seen Honeycomb barely makes it. I predict another year until everything is ironed out. All of these 3rd party skins makes it worse.

What lag? Are you talking about when he adds the widgets to the homepage?

That was user error, he was trying to flick it up there. He was supposed to long-press the icon first, then drag and drop.

Yes, I watched the whole vid, nothing seemed laggy, seemed snappy.

#1 Was clearly user error
#2 What? Looks smooth as a baby's bum. :hmm:

How was that user error? The dock doesn't respond to sideways swipes? lol

#2
If you think a rusty gate is smooth, then I agree.

I'm not sure how people find this acceptable on a dual core smartphone that is gonna cost you $2k over two years.

Watched it through several times. I don't think it can simply be dismissed as "user error." There definitely was some issue with the response to the sideways thumb swipes, and it's obvious that when he wanted to drag the icon onto the main portion of the screen he had to tap and wait for it to react. You can call that user error if you want, but as a developer it looked like lag to me.

That small amount of lag gets pretty annoying, i've had it since day one on my captivate. There's no way im going to accept that in my next phone, im gonna make sure to try it out before i purchase it. Anand made some good points about it in the atrix preview, this is more than enough to sway me towards the atrix or any other tegra2 based phone.

After using the Atrix 4G as my only smartphone I must say, I completely agree with Brian's assessment. The dual Cortex A9s in NVIDIA's Tegra 2 make Android so much better. Even though the Atrix 4G is only running Froyo (2.2.1) it felt like the fastest Android phone I'd ever used, including my brief stint with the Nexus S.
You see the Nexus S's partially GPU accelerated build of Android (Gingerbread) makes scrolling through your list of apps buttery smooth. Even the Atrix 4G lacks that. Every now and then you get a stutter or hiccup, but it's usually pretty good.
Where the Nexus S falls short however is in actual application response time and in performance when switching between apps. Trips back to the home screen, launching new apps and even interacting with apps all feels quicker on the Atrix 4G than anything sans-Tegra 2.
We tend to get spoiled by super fast hardware given the nature of our work. As a result, when things don't perform up to par we're a lot more sensitive. If you find yourself in the same boat, then (at least today) Tegra 2 may be the only way to scratch that itch.

People seem to love throwing this line out there, even though its simply not true. The phone does NOT cost you $2000. In no way, shape or form. You are paying that much for the service. You do not have to have the service to buy the phone. If you really wanted, you could buy the phone outright (for about $500) and use it without service. Its absurd to lump the cost of the service in with the cost of the phone.

Now, if you were torn between, say, the Epic 4G and the Captivate, you should say "well Sprint is a lot cheaper than AT&T, so I'd save money"....but really, they are two separate decisions that happen to coincide.

The side swipes at :49 definitely seem like the *screen* just wasn't responding to his swipes. Perhaps because it's a pre-production model.

When he tried dragging the widget from the dock to the homescreen it was clearly user error. Android requires long presses to move anything around like that (not swipes).

Also it's not dual core.

I've said that forever. The service you have to pay for, regardless of which phone you get, so that shouldn't even be a factor in pricing the phone.

That's the exact symptom my captivate has from time to time, you can find this exact same symptom on pc's with mechanical hd's. When there's a lot of disk activity and you try to switch windows or start an app and nothing happens, its very annoying.
And who said the s2 isn't dual core?

Wow, sweet looking phone , nice and slim also... It really maximizes the screen real estate, while keeping dimensions down.

Did not watch the video but considering the OP, I know it's just Android hate. I want to know if the GPS works properly.

Specs wise it's up there with Moto Atrix. 4.3 inch S-amoled plus screen has to be breathtaking. Let's see how bad the US carriers cripple this device and make changes. I also wonder if Samsung will lock the bootloader this time. Given the piss poor Samsung support, any lockdown attempt is automatic no purchase. Same with Moto Atrix.
