I got a deal on the HTC One V recently. Sense 4.0 with ICS seems to work very well. There's very little to any bloat at all and battery life seems to be good as well. I used my phone today and when I arrived from work it still had 65% battery life left, so I'm not complaining.

Most manufacturers have taken the route of making their OS skins lighter and lighter so it doesn't deviate much from the stock UI.

I was a diehard AOSP/CM user. Loved the stock look & feel of android. From the LG Optimus V, Droid Charge(CM7), & Galaxy Nexus.
Now I have a Galaxy S3 & Note 2 & I really, really like TouchWiz. It is not bad at all. In fact, it made improvements(imho) to AOSP that have just now been introduced, such as an All In One clock package. I am really glad I gave it a chance.

I was on stock TW on my gs3 for a while before putting AOKP on it. Honestly I kind of miss the TW motion controls. My biggest problem with TW was how childish the stock theme and icons are, but if I can change that I might go back to a TW rom. I'll still use nova launcher but TW has some nice features and the contact list is much better than other roms I've tried.

Are Android users really this cheap?

While TouchWiz is a travesty of a UI, it isn't like any of the others, including stock, are what I would really consider acceptable.

TSF Shell is the best available atm IMO- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsf.shell

I'd say second would be SPB which I was using for a long time prior to TSF, hard to justify the purchase of it now with the cost being so close to TSF- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spb.shell3d

I can tolerate stock for close to twenty four hours before I have to put a usable UI on any device I use. Blur I get about the same. TouchWiz and Sense I won't even help someone with their phone if they are having issues- utter trash.

TW is pretty good and brings a bunch of functions that AOSP lacks (multi window, smart stay, etc). I do tend to replace the launcher (but I do that for AOSP as well) and debloat with titanium (takes about 5 mins tops).

Just installing a nova theme will give you the option of changing the icons.

I don' tthink that launcher looks all that great at all, especially not 16 dollars good.

Both of those are overly complicated messes of launchers.

While everyone has a different opinion on what makes a great UI I'm pretty doubtful either of those would qualify even if they were free in terms of money or the resources they suck up.

Wow, those launchers look absolutely terrible. If a phone came with one of those as the only launcher, it'd be instantaneously crossed off the list.

I wonder if those UIs are designed solely by engineers, cuz they sure look like it. They add "features" just for the sake of adding features, while making things slower, more complicated, and less user friendly.

What is more complicated..... that you have options? Certainly doesn't make it slower, on any pre JB device it is significantly smoother using either of them IME.

Really complicated...

I have Sense with ICS on my Sensation... stock roms... I really do enjoy the layouts and usage... I have straight up Jelly Bean on my Nexus 7

I'd say I prefer my phone overall, but the tablet is so much fucking faster that I love the tablet more. If I could have a mix of both I would be extremely happy

Really? Because it doesn't offer flashy 3d rotation animations and goofy information widgets it's a "travesty" and "utter trash"?

The demo video just shows what you can do, not what you have to do.

I only tried SBP and it was a slow, choppy disaster on my GS2. Any launcher that needs an advanced GPU to even be functional isn't a launcher for me.

And why do you automatically assume we use these launchers because we're cheap? I have the premium version of my launcher, and use it because it works without fuss and I can still have it do what I want. Those 3D launchers look like nothing more than something to show off to your friends... not what's actually useful. Who knows though.

Lack of customization options and poor performance would be my top two reasons why it's trash, stock Android is better, Blur is better, *any* aftermarket launcher that I have ever seen is better. The launcher videos just show options you can do, I posted screenshots for some different types of setups you can do, fairly easily.

That's, odd. I ran it on a GS1 for a while and it was smoother then stock, obviously on a GS3 it runs like butter. Never actually tried it on a GS2 before, seems odd that it would run worse then on a GS1, but I've seen stranger things.

And why do you automatically assume we use these launchers because we're cheap?

No sense of humor I know some of the Android users on this forum won't pay for anything, so I give them crap on occasion.

Nova isn't bad, certainly worlds better then TW. When comparing one of the premium launchers to the 3D ones I think you can make an argument that some of the features of the 3D ones are just showy, compared to any of the stock builds though any decent aftermarket launcher makes them look like crap.

Those 3D launchers look like nothing more than something to show off to your friends... not what's actually useful. Who knows though.

Some of it you can't see, the various motion controls for different finger swipes, although anyone who uses CM is probably used to those, some of the gallery and music player functions are greatly improved along with the notes and calender widgets/interface.

Any launcher that needs an advanced GPU to even be functional isn't a launcher for me.

Jellybean's default launcher falls under that category

I think there may be a bit of confusion about what some of us mean when saying "I like Touchwiz". At least for ME, when I say I like Touchwiz I mean I like the features the OS offers... not the launcher. The launcher is merely the homepage, and serves as a way to organize apps to quickly access. Touchwiz goes further than this though, and has boatloads of motion controls that I personally really enjoy.

For example, one of the features I really liked before switching roms was direct motion calling. If I was texting somebody and wanted to call them, all I had to do was raise the phone to my ear and it auto-dialed who I was texting. No extra taps and it worked well. I also liked the contact list itself that was included in Touchwiz.

However, the default launcher is terrible which is what I think you're assuming all of us meant. You can use TSF Shell as the launcher and still be running Touchwiz, which gives you all the motion controls I personally like without having to use a terrible launcher. You have to remember than TW is not just a launcher, it's through the entire OS, and when some of us say we like Touchwiz we don't necessarily mean the launcher.

Ahh, then Tasker>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>All

I actually rather like Touchwiz, perhaps I'm odd?

Well, yes actually

You swap back and forth between iOS and Android devices, TW is kind of somewhere in between so that you like it really isn't that surprising.

I like it too. The features it includes over AOSP is better, as is the theme. I've always had tons of problems using aftermarket launchers, while the Nature UX launcher just works. Even on the leaked JB rom for the S2 runs better than any third-part launcher I tried.
