You get lasik Cookie?
People at work are starting to wonder why I'm hobbling around like a stick-man every day...
Heh.. I'm in the same boat. Every day I come in with a new sore spot depending on what I worked the night before. The good news is, it's getting easier, I'm getting stronger, I'm seeing muscles I never saw before, and my endurance has improved drastically. But I still have lots of work to do!
Do we have a team name yet?
I'm training for it now, but I have a long way to go! Also my 'friend' who wants me to join is a bit sketchy and I don't really know if he will get a team together. If he doesn't, can I join your team?! Or maybe I'll join your team anyway and do two of them!
Serious.
I think it's awesome and am considering it...locally there is said to be one here next year. What does your training look like to get ready for this? Watching the site's promo vids, everyone looks to be in pretty d@mn good shape.
Personally I have a long way to go for training to be Tough Mudder ready, but right now I'm focussing on:
1) Losing weight - I've lost 45 so far, 3 more to go until I reach my original goal and switch my primary focus
2) Building endurance - There is a lot of running in Tough Mudder and I'd stopped running about 6 years ago.
3) Upper body strength - For the wall climbing, monkey bars, rope climbing, etc.
To do that I'm currently doing p90x every day (currently on day 45), C25k every second day even when it's -30 degrees or blizzarding outside to get used to the elements (half way through week 7 of 8), and as many other recreational but physical activities as I can fit in, dancing, hiking, walking, swimming, stair climbing at work, and lots and lots of stretching!
Once I hit my weight goal and finish p90x I'll switch my focus more to upper body strength and endurance and also add pain tolerance, specifically for the ice cold water obstacles. I don't really know how I'm going to do that yet, likely some sort of combination of p90x, running, and TM workout suggestions.
Also, to keep me on track I have a 5k scheduled at the end of April, I want to find a 10k to do in July, and I'm climbing Kilimanjaro in September. And I'd really like to do a smaller obstacle course type run this summer too.
To prepare for this, I've got a lot of work to do, particularly on the strength and pain tolerance. Running has always been easy for me to build endurance, but when strength and pain tolerance is involved at the same time, it's a whole different game, much more exhausting.
Why is no one addressing my very valid concern? Or am I just a big pussy?
Actually I think this is a very valid concern. All you need is a couple people to fall or trip up and while the people behind continue to push the- fallen people wont be able to get up. Ive been in a few situations where there were so many people crowded together and basically pushing you while your walking that its very easy to stumble. And with the force of so many people pushing you cant help but be pushed whatever direction the crowd is going. In this type of situation even if someone trips in front of you and you try to stop you cant. Hence people get trampled to death in these situations.
However I would have to assume that these situations have been thought out and prepared for in these games
Bah, all the obstacles are mud and climbing things. I was hoping for the balance beams, Walking Dead highway full of cars, etc.
Balance beams! I forgot about that! There is a mystery obstacle too. Maybe it'll be that one. I'm just glad there is no rope climbing.
