Hey Guys,

I'm doing the one in NJ on the 20th, can someone suggest some good clothes ? I was looking for compression shirts, shorts, gloves and good shoes for this event. I started looking, but have no idea what is good. Its going to be a bit cooler by then so I want to make sure the comprression gear will keep me dry and warm as possible.

I'm doing the one in NJ on the 20th as well. For shoes I'm going to wear my NB Minimus MT20s, which I've used on several hikes already and am ok with getting filthy (buying a new pair soon anyway). Have an underarmor long sleeve that I'm debating wearing, but not sure about the shorts/pants part yet.

Under armor is popular. I think target/walmart sells some cheap knock offs. Costco does too. Most of the people that wore the synthetic stuff were the cleanest throughout the event. They were the driest too. The only thing is in some of the crawling obstacles your clothes might snag on the random stones that are everywhere or the barbed wire. Could mess you're clothes up a bit.

I wore a cotton t-shirt and I don't think that thing will ever come clean. It was yellow but after 2 washings it's still brown. I and a lot of other people wore board shorts. The quick drying ones. You can wear compression gear underneath so mud doesn't get in your crotch area.

Trail running shoes are best with wicking socks. Just double knot your laces. Some people tape their shoes but it makes it hard to adjust it if it feels too tight or too loose. The reason being you could lose a shoe when you're walking through the mud.

Gloves can help. The ones I posted earlier in the thread are the most popular. My roommate used park (snowboarding) gloves and they kept his hands dry. Some girls used under armor gloves and they loved them. Take them off and make sure your hands are dry for the funky monkey. I didn't wear gloves and I felt OK but your event will be much colder. Your hands will be dirty when you eat most likely.

Forecast says 82 degrees for Saturday. Are you guys bringing anything for hydration?

I just ran 3 miles and did 48 flights of stairs (48 up and 48 down) tonight at 55 degrees and needed more water than I expected (damn those hills and stairs!!). I'm rethinking my original plan to not bring anything and just use the water stations.

the thing I am worried about most is jumping into the freakin water.I am actually dreading it.

I got some compression shirts and legging to wear. What kind of undergarments am I supposed to wear with compression leggings? Cotton is not recce-mended from what I understand.

I got some under armour underwear to use. I used them for Spartan race and they seemed good. I haven't done any with cotton for comparison.

I think I won't have a problem with the ice water. It was snowing where I live yesterday, and the ground is still covered with frost this morning. The race site is supposed to be low 80s on Saturday, so I'm hoping I find the ice water refreshing! At least that's what I am trying to convince myself. Likely I'll shriek like a dying seal as I jump in.

February in Pheonix. But I might just wait til next year. I still hurt....ow.

It hurts to laugh. It hurts to cough. But it REALLY hurts to sneeze. (And walk up or down stairs, sit down, stand up... or any other type of movement). But I'm loving it!

I'm really glad you guys were able to make it out - I had a great time. I actually think it's safe to say this is the best weekend I've ever had, ever.

Would anyone be up for coming out in February? Chris and I are thinking about it, and it's only 15 miles from my house.

Agreed. Fantastic weekend. Thanks for welcoming me into your circle of friends.

83.7% certain I want to do Phoenix in Feb. Especially if the offer of crashing at your place is still available.

Edit: Any excuse to get out of Calgary in February, right?
