The obstacles don't stop when Tough Mudder is over.

Obstacle 31: get out of bed
Obstacle 32: dress yourself
Obstable 33: drive a manual transmission car to work

Best. Weekend. Ev4r.

Hey Guys,

I'm doing the one in NJ on the 20th, can someone suggest some good clothes ? I was looking for compression shirts, shorts, gloves and good shoes for this event. I started looking, but have no idea what is good. Its going to be a bit cooler by then so I want to make sure the comprression gear will keep me dry and warm as possible.

I found the best shorts ever for this:

Under Armour "Tough Run" shorts #1230163

Basically hard poly shell shorts with built in compression shorts liner.

So next one, we are thinking about dressing up as psychos from Borderlands and running around saying things like "Strip the flesh! Salt the wound!"

great job, guys, and great pics. looks like a blast! were there any electricity based obstacles? i had heard they had something like that in the past. i might have to look into one of the east coast races though i think it's too late for me to do the 20 oct in one nj.

I was trying to get the rocks out of my gloves! lol

There were two electric obstacles.

'Electric eel' - crawling on your stomach under a wooden structure through an inch or two of water with electric wires hanging down.

and 'Electroshock therapy' which is at the end of every Tough Mudder. Running through electric wires for maybe 20 feet.

I think I was the only one to get shocked during electric eel. I got hit twice, but it was REALLY minor. On a 0-9 pain scale it was probably about a 0.2. Electroshock therapy we linked arms and ran through together, but none of us felt anything.

It may be too late for NJ, but you could do this one... http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2275481

So much fun. Highly recommended.

The staff in charge of electroshock therapy were constantly fiddling with the power unit... I think it crapped half way through the day. I saw no one exhibit any indication that they were being zapped, and certainly no one face-planted in the mud like you'd see in the highlight videos.

Yeah but everyone went through balls out *expecting* to be shocked anyway. eg: it's the mental game that matters; can you do it voluntarily *thinking* that it's live.

We thought about complaining and demanding our money back, but then they would have a special course just for us next time with like 6 diesel generators at the finish line...

Also: mmm.... dry socks....

I agree. It's all mental. I don't know if I could have done the last one if jlee hadn't threatened to carry me through sideways to hit all the electric wires if I didn't run it myself.

If you want, we can rig up a spark plug wire for you to touch on a running car to see what it's like so you can be prepared next time. It's really not a big deal. :awe:

That's what my dad suggested. LOL

He also said when I go visit early next month I can practice with the electric fence.

I think I might actually take him up on that offer, because if I don't I'm going to be just as chicken-shit for that obstacle in February too.

Electric fence isn't nearly as big a jolt because the length of the circuit has alot of resistance to it.

The pics are cool, but this thread begs for a write-up from one of you participants!

I'll try to get to that, but honestly, by the end of the run we were so exhausted I don't think any of us could remember half the obstacles. It's even harder to remember 5 days later. If I find the list of obstacles in our course it should help spark some specific memories.

Just finished tri-state tough mudder on Saturday, it was AWESOME! I honestlye had no trouble with any of the obstacles, but the ice water was crazy! I couldn't get a good grip on the monkey bars either but it was all good. will look to do another one sometime in the spring.

two things I couldn't conquer were the high berlin wall and the 15 jump into water. But everything else was cake.

I was also there on Saturday and I agree that it was awesome. Though the 8:20 start time sucked, it did mean that we didn't have to wait at all for any of the obstacles.

Monkey bars and rings were what killed me, so I'll ensure that my grip strength is up to par for next spring!

What happened with the 15 jump? The only difficulty I could see is if you're afraid of heights. The high berlin walls also didn't happen for me, I cramped up in places I didn't know I had.

Looked more like tough desert to me. Mudder? Vegas? In the desert? I've got 10 times more mud in my backyard.
