so someone brought me a laptop that won't boot up at all...windows xp is installed and it just hangs at a black screen after the windows xp logo...he told me to start all over again so I thought simple...just reformat and reinstall...well...that is proving to be difficult...first of all he didn't have any of the disks that came with the laptop so I'm using my bootable windows 2000 disk...put it in there...make sure the cd-rom was first in the boot order and booted up...nothing...double checked...it recognizes the cd-rom at post...just nothing...it just seems to skip it and goes directly to the hard drive...any suggestions? I'm making a win2k bootdisk with 4 floppys from bootdisk.com and hoping that fixes it...but I somehow doubt that...
