...Dallas to ABQ? Do you want to fall asleep at the wheel?
It's not like there is a real alternative!

Too late, he is visiting NC.
In NC, I would visit no where. Our state is a stain.
As are the Nantahalas and Smoky Mts. Everything in between sucks dogs' balls to be sure. That's not true. The Outer Banks are quite nice.

I was gonna say, no Michigan!?

Beach and the mountains. Everything else sucks.
I see you have Pittsburgh on the list. If you are a sports fan then take up a baseball game at the best stadium in all of baseball. If you are not a sports fan then you just cut out 50% of what the city is about. Also Kennywood Amusement Park is pretty damn good. so check that out if you are into that sort of thing. Pittsburgh cost of living is low so that a plus. The club scene is pretty crappy and you said dance related stuff. Carson street is the best place to hang out with the younger crowed.
Also make sure you check out the Squirrel Hill tunnels -- especially in the middle of rush hour. Not to be missed! Remember, there's nothing about the roads in Pittsburgh you can't fix with a good nuke.
Dave
Better, I would cut Phoenix and put Las Vegas in it's place and on the way back cut out the trip back through Cali and head up through Wyoming, Montana and Idaho and take 84 back in to Portland.
Some of the most beautiful parts of the US and you are simply missing them.
How does that work, blow jobs?... (I'll be doing rideshares the whole way so that I don't pay for any gas)....
Skip MI, this place is all kinds of fucked up.
THIS
Unless you go to northern Michigan.. really nice up there.
You can skip Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania.. most of that area really.
Oh god Squirrel Hill tunnels suck monkey balls.
Personally Michigan is cool if you know where to visit. Western side of Michigan has tons of nice beaches and breweries. Heck Traverse City/Sleeping Bear Dunes/Leelanau peninsula area alone is worth a trip.
It's pretty obvious most of you haven't seen much of the country. If you think there is nothing to see in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Indiana then you've been in the basement too long. Granted, Indiana might be the toughest case to make if you aren't a motorsports fan or farmer, but every state has its interesting parts (in Indiana and Ohio it's the southern bits, just FYI).
So I will give you a gentleman's pass on Ohio and Indiana, even though you're wrong. But on Pennsylvania... you just can't have seen very much of it.
Yeah I'd live in Western MI if all my family wasn't on the eastern side. It is a lot nicer out there in general.
But, there are nice areas on the east "coast" too. Overall I don't mind living here, but if I could get all of our family to move somewhere nicer I'd do it.
But everywhere has its ups and downs. Not gonna have the "grass is greener" attitude.
