Toxikk- The new UT/Quake?

It's a new shooter in the same vein as UT/Quake. I watched Fatal1ty last night on twitch play the game. He had some reservations about it, but it still is in beta. His main complaint was that the guns were firing too slowly.

It looks very old school but fun. Has anyone played the game yet? Thoughts?

He streams on Twitch from time to time. Normally, he streams after 10pm (EST). He doesn't adhere to a set schedule. He isn't too sociable though.. He doesn't really communicate with viewers, and he doesn't use a camera. You can still hear his voice.

Currently he's playing Toxikk. He also streams Painkiller multiplayer from time to time. I haven't seen him stream anything else.

Toxikk is more UT flavor while another new arena fps called Reflex is in early access that is more akin to Q3A and has one of the main CPMA guys working on it.

Much of the artwork and the look is UT3,i actually like the look of the game.It looks like something UT4 would end up as if i saw gameplay video without knowing what it was.

The biggest drawback is that Op rocket launcher,everyone and their mother appears to be spamming it in gameplay videos lol.

I could play it and simply just tell myself its UT4 and i could believe it,multiplayer most likely is as dead as UT3 so there's already a point there lol.

What market is oversaturated? The arena-style FPS market? Because this is the only game that I've heard of besides Reflex, the new UT, Quake Live relaunch and Rise of the Triad to match that market.

I kind of feel badly for the Toxikk developers. They began work and invested time, money, and energy in good faith on a new arena FPS game at a time when arena FPS was completely dead. Then out of nowhere, a new UT game emerges that probably has better game play in its current (very very) pre-Alpha state than Toxikk has at its later Beta stage of development. Also, the new UT game is going to be 100% free, not free-to-play with microtransactions or pay-to-win, but free. (Private modders and mappers can sell content if they wish, but it's not required to play the game.)

Whipper, these were my thoughts as well while I was taking my morning dump at work (TMI? Nevar... )

Epic should just swoop them up so that they can contribute to UT2014. Toxikk is in dire need of a weapons revamp from the ground up (not enough 'variety' to them), which was made exceptionally clear after playing UT2014 last night.

Perhaps Toxikk's abundance of hitscan is to help appeal to the masses?

Reakktor definitely has talent, and I love what they stand for. I'd just hate to see their work go to waste.

Nope. They went for negative marketing for their game so I have no sympathy for them. Game can stand on the merit of gameplay not the marketing so maybe the game is good but the company is meaningless to me.

Their ads went farther than some jabbing and were more or less nothing but insulting other games to promote their game. In other words just like negative political ads.

yeah but people WANT zombie shooters, thats why theres so many.

And before that it was Modern Combat or Call of Warfare.

And before that it was WWII junk.

The reason we dont have more UT clones is because people got fed up with them a LONG time ago.

You know whats coming next?
Survival games. Some with zombies. Some realistic. But thats where the trend is heading.

No it was just terrible because that is all they said. Why not say powerful guns or tactically oriented maps. All their ads ever said was just no, no, no, no.

Phrases like powerful guns and tactical maps are meaningless to me, they could describe almost any shooter. Saying things like it doesn't use health regeneration or have a leveling system on the other hand, tells me more about the game in a few phrases than I could get out of reading entire reviews of some shooters. When was the last time you saw a shooters trailer say something like "Featuring awesome regenerating health!", doesn't happen, I have to go beyond the trailer to find out if I should ignore their game or not, I didn't have to do that with this trailer.

I bought H1Z1 last week. I've been having fun with it, and I can see why it's very popular. I like to play as the lone wolf.

Lol, you're still caught up on this.

The ad was meant to attract old-school FPS players, and it did a darn good job at it, IMO.

Those mechanics (health regen, etc.) are the very things we are sick of, in all fairness.
