Toyota Tacoma PreRunner: New Owner

2010 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner TRD Offroad

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on things I want to add to the vehicle:

1. I purchased the TOW package but strangely enough it did not come with the class 4 receiver/ball, just the class 4 hitch setup. Besides spending $60 with the dealer, where else can I buy this and get a good reliable brand?

2. Car Alarm: Since my Jeep Cherokee (that I sold this last week) was broken in to last Saturday (all electronics were taken), my wife and I have decided to get car alarms for both this truck and our 2006 Honda Civic Sedan. What do you guys recommend....and where do I buy it/have it installed from?

3. Stereo: The factory installed (non JBL setup) is huge. How do I go about putting in an after market receiver? Do I really need to or should/can I just buy a nice amplifier and better door speakers and just have a better sounding system? What do you guys recommend?

4. Running boards: I don't want to buy these from the dealer. They cost too much there. Where do you guys recommend?

5. Anything else you guys recommend?

Mind you, I am 27 years old, this is my first truck! A brand new vehicle ever for that matter too (always bought used).

2. car audio places usually do alarms too
3. crutchfield.com for info on your car, look for a dash kit then buy w/e kind of headunit you want from elsewhere, adding speakers and an amplifier is a great idea if you get the headunit too
4. find a nice toyota parts store online, or ebay toyota dealers (i found some of my honda stuff this way)

How about keep the stock stereo as-is and skip the aftermarket alarm?

Could you expound on the alarm requirements? Both of those vehicles have alarms. Do you want a louder one? one that notifies you remotely? Both?

This truck does NOT have an alarm on it.

Most factory alarms just go off if the door opens, I think he wants one to go off if someone touches his car... like a real alarm

4x2s can run the Baja 1000 and Paris-Dakar.

Unless you don't know how to drive, good offroad tires and a slow motion of driving through "mud" will get you anywhere you want to go......

Congrats. I've got the 2010 prerunner non-trd.

FWIW: You may already have found out but the back up camera is VERY distracting for me. Almost backed into someone leaving the lot because I was looking at the camera and not the full mirror. Great for the trailer hitch/ kids/toys. Not so much otherwise.
