Warranty should pay for all costs.

Most warranties (especially extended), will charge for a 'teardown' fee, to be waived if the damage is covered by the warranty and through no fault of the owner. It's pretty commonplace.

Been through it with a Ford Exploder and a Jeep. Both times the teardown fee was stated, but waived after they found failure in the engine. Ford= timing chain tensioners shredded, and Jeep=differential carrier bearings.

I think this is what's going on but I don't like it because if they don't find a problem or if they don't think it's covered for whatever reason my gf has a $400 bill plus a torn down engine. I don't see much of a choice though.

Go to another dealership, sounds like they are trying to screw you... you should not have to pay a dime if the car is still under warranty

..do a google on toyota "consumer complaints" and "service bulletins. Despite their reputation their products have lots of trouble issues among them under sized brk disks on the Tundra and frequent oxy.sensor failure on their trucks.

Then you can even call your local TV channels and have them do an investigative report too. You can get them a lot of bad publicity.

How dare you speak poorly of beloved Toyota. You will be forever hated among the loyal Toyota fans around here.

Only domestic cars have quality issues, that is common knowledge.

Next week he will be back telling us how great Toyota handled the situation and it was a non toyota part

BTW, extended warrantees suck, and should be avoided unless they are free.

If they claim that diagnosing this is not covered under warranty, then thank them and tell them that you'll be happy to bring the car back when the engine explodes and they'll be responsible for those damages plus the lawsuit that comes with it.

But yeah, talk to corporate and, if necessary, climb the ladder to somebody who cares and they should take care of you.

Or even, just try a different dealership. That may work too. And be sure to go with her and just casually mention that you know you won't get your next car from the last dealership because of how they treated your gf...

Be creative and somebody will do the right thing on their end.

Somehow I think this has a lot to do with it.

If only it was so easy.

Some mechanical problems need to be diagnosed with exploratory surgery. Sort of like in the hospital - blood tests and an EKG can only tell so much. Sometimes they have to go in.

Anyway, dealerships are scared to death of factory customer service lines. Call the 800 number for Toyota.
