That eula change has all to do with this card IMHO :

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/titan/titan-v/

https://www.anandtech.com/show/12170/nvidia-titan-v-preview-titanomachy

That GV100 is appearing in a Titan card is extremely notable, and it’s critical to understanding NVIDIA’s positioning and ambitions with the Titan V. NVIDIA’s previous high-end GPU, the Pascal-based GP100, never made it to a Titan card. That role was instead filled by the much more straightforward and consumer-focused GP102 GPU, leading to the resulting Titan Xp. Titan Xp itself was no slouch in compute or graphics, however it left a sizable gap in performance and capabilities between it and the Tesla family of server cards. By putting GV100 into a Titan card, NVIDIA has eliminated this gap. However it also changes the market for the card and its expectations.

The Titan family has already been pushing towards compute for the past few years, and by putting the compute-centric GV100 into the card, NVIDIA has essentially ushered that transition to completion. The Titan V now gets all of the compute capabilities of NVIDIA’s best GPU, but in turn it’s more distant than ever from the graphics world. Which is not to say that it can’t do graphics – as we’ll see in detail in a bit – but this is first and foremost a compute card. In particular it is a means for NVIDIA to seed development for the Volta architecture and its new tensor cores, and to give its user base a cheaper workstation-class alternative for smaller-scale compute projects. The Titan family may have started as a card for prosumers, but the latest Titan V is more professional than any card before.

Datacenter is pretty specific. Nobody is going to consider your apartment a data center. They are targeting customers who reside within data centers selling time on their servers using a consumer grade card to run code.

I'm curious what prompted this move more than the move itself.

And honestly didn't know their consumer cards could run the same code\tools as their professional and HPC level cards. Thought that was blocked at the driver level.
The problem is that the EULA doesn't specify what a datacenter is according to NVIDIA.

Only certain ISVs require Quadro/Tesla cards because they only work with certified drivers. If you're writing your own code then it doesn't matter if it's a GeForce card in most cases.

This is why I don't understand why so many on this forum hate AMD so much. Having competition is better for the consumer I only wish there was another supplier to take it to both AMD and Nvidia.

I don't think forum goers hate AMD, I think they hate the hype and hyperbole brought about by AMD fanatics with each new cycle of card releases.

Honest question, when you hear Datacenter what is the first thing to pop into your mind?

And yet 3 of the 4 individuals who liked your post are known AMD trolls.

Nvidia and Intel aren't perfect and I know AMD isn't either they're just tech companies trying to make a buck. I've noticed on these forums over the years that you have the same AMD hate trolls on every AMD thread with all intent to bring negativity to the thread and AMD.

I call it like I see it!

Did you not see Esquared's warning
three posts above this one?

Maybe you did, but still thought you could
get in just one more comment? Wrong.

You only "read" the EULA when you initially install the drivers, and considering that every EULA that was "read" before this most recent one had no such stipulations, I would imagine that everyone who already had the drivers installed in a DC environment could very likely be grandfathered in, at least legally. Maybe NV will try and go after a few of the big fish (are there even many?), but I doubt there is legally anything they could do. The customer already agreed to the EULA you provided, you cant just rescind your consent after the fact because you found a way to somehow be an even sh****** and greedy company.

ITT: a whole bunch of people bitching about a multi billion dollar corporation enforcing its IP rights against other multi million/billion dollar corporations.

And then using it as justification for why their IHV of choice is the best ever.

Jesus folks, get a life.

So what? GeForce isn't an enterprise compute card. Is anyone bitching actually running Geforce cards in a datacenter?
Just like clockwork lol. Opened this thread hoping I'd find this one throwing up an instant, iron-clad defense.

So the guy that you and many others bemoaned as a failure at AMD who brought out two generations of bad product is going to make Intel succeed where they have failed twice before? All as a single hire?
