Damn, that really sucks. I hope you nail their asses. It's good they were already prosecuted in regards to the eggings, it will only hurt them down the road. You should really do your best to get them in the act with a video camera, though I suspect you're already ahead of us with such approaches.

Have a shotgun? Security cameras? They sound extremely stupid, therefore dangerous Best of luck to you.

i am very curious as to why they're doing this to you. i hope that you get the protection you need and that your lawsuit works out in the end. care to elaborate some more about the situation? probably inappropriate to ask. just curious..
I can understand your curiosity.

I'll give you the cliffnotes version.

My husband worked for them 2 years ago (they're a newspaper)
He was injured at work.
He filed worker's comp insurance.
They didn't have it.
Things go crazy from there.

To be fair to both sides, they have accused us of things too. They said we broke in to their establishment (we didn't, we were cleared), we can hack their electricity (not sure what that's about???), we chased them down the street with a sword (again...???? ), we've planted bombs under their cars and in their business that are "charging (yet again...?????)

The only reason we know about any of their allegations was that they publish them.

Any fvcking idiot who knows even the first thing about email knows how to find open relays and route email all over the world before it reaches it's destination. If simply following the email header back actually finds the person who sent that email, the're SERIOUSLY FVCKTARDED.

First off, get yourself some real protection, like a gun!

Second, I agree with what another poster stated, put up a security cam. Once you got these punks on video you have all the proof you need.

Finally, send everything you have to your lawyer and see what he can do.

No, a few miles away. They have easy access to us, which is how they (we believe it was them, can't prove it) managed to
-dump acid on the car 3 times
-burn down the garage
-cut the tranny line while the car was parked BEHIND THE POLICE CHIEF'S HOUSE
-make threatening phone calls
-egg the house (numerous times, they did get caught doing this once and were prosecuted)
-routinely stalk/drive by

crazy story. keep us updated.
Crazy enough so that if I wasn't living it, I wouldn't believe it.

Damn! what started all this?

WTF?!!

Seriously, set up some video cameras. Do it.

How the hell did they get your email address?

First, does a half pint chihuahia count?

Second, we're barely getting by financially. When we can, we will. We lost our microwave and still haven't been able to get it replaced. A long stint of unemployment set us back and we're still trying to recover.

See cliffnotes above.

They had mine (it's a webmail addy) from when we were on good terms with them.
My husband's we're not sure. We're guessing they got it from someone in town who circulates those email jokes and stories..

Guns are cheap. My buddy just bought a $50 .22 pistol from a local dealer. With a few days of work, it shoots just fine. He screwed the sights up, but that's his problem. You gotta know where to look. But all you have to do is save your milk money for enough days and you'll have enough for a gun. If you're looking for something partially respectable, though, he bought a $300 S&W 9mm from the same dealer. We're not talking about a $1,200 SA 1911a fullsize stainless, here. A well placed shot from a cheap gun can save your life just as easily as the biggest, most expensive gun you've got.

Above all, just be safe. Keep your eyes open and watch your back. Knives are cheaper and a hell of a lot more fun (read: more ... shall we say, gratifying). They also don't require loads of money and a conceiled carry permit if the blade is under 4".

I always thought that there were extreme laws to help protect people involved in a criminal investigation. I know I was a witness to a battery case and if anyone even threatens me about it or seeks retribution they get an automatic Fed sentence against them.

I live in a VERY small town. Things are a bit backward here. I don't feel the police are doing a good job.

This might be kind of week but if the email did go through Mexico you might be able to get the Feds involved. Threats-Interstate Communications is their jurisdiction I think.

18 USC § 875
[TITLE 18. CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
PART I. CRIMES
CHAPTER 41. EXTORTION AND THREATS]
§ 875. Interstate communications

(a) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any demand or request for a ransom or reward for the release of any kidnapped person, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
(b) Whoever, with intent to extort from any person, firm, association, or corporation, any money or other thing of value, transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
(c) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
(d) Whoever, with intent to extort from any person, firm, association, or corporation, any money or other thing of value, transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to injure the property or reputation of the addressee or of another or the reputation of a deceased person or any threat to accuse the addressee or any other person of a crime, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

He's using them against them. Right before the garage burned down, one of them told us he was going to kill us and burn down the house. Right after that, the garage went up in smoke. Right after that, there was a blurb in the paper about us "learning our lesson."

He's using that line in particular to the fullest extent he can against them.

Is this newpaper online at all?
It was. My husband built them their website for free. It was never updated after the accident. Eventually, it was taken down (we're not sure how). We told the police when we noticed it was down so they couldn't try to say we took it down.

Is there a trial date or anything? Hopefully soon! They sound very smart writing things of this nature in the paper.

Not yet. We had gotten the trial moved out of this jurisdiction because of all the publicity. However, they got it moved back somehow (our lawyer wasn't even aware of it, and the only reason we found out was because it was in the paper).

Have you tried getting the State or County Police involved? Perhaps a local new agency? Don't be afraid to go over your local law enforcements heads. Obviously it wouldn't be that hard to do considering where their heads are located right now (up their arses for the slow people)

Yes, and they keep telling us that because it's a local case, the locals have to call them in before they can step in.
