This is probably the least frequent question in the forum. Which do you prefer: Trackball or Mice? Any good/bad experiences?

Trackballs suck in my opinion....I can't stand them. I always used a mouse, i think they are the best for games and accuracy.

trackball all the way. a mouse kills your wrist when you use it to much. trackball is the way to go. wireless put it on the arm of your chair and go to town.

If you have a large screen, no more wrist fatigue, trackball all the way.

Or you can just increase the mouse pointer speed.

My friend has a trackball and I can't use it at all. It's the kind that you have to use your thumb to navigate. Maybe I would fair better with a trackball that is to be used with the other fingers on my hand. But then again, I'm very happy with my mouse, and I don't think I could use a trackball in FPS and still keep accuracy.

Tell you what next time try your luck with a microsoft trackball explorer, I've owned one for the last 2 years now and I absolutly love it you use your two index fingers to move the ball and your thumb along with your second last two fingers to click, now for gaming it takes awhile but I can also tell you that its worth it, accuracy is there once you get the hang of it ! you'll love it oh yea turns and spins like you never beleve. Oh yea one more thing I'll own your A$$ in quake3 Instagib !

best of both worlds here
MS Trackball Optical (black one) in PS2 port for surfing is elite
MS Intellimouse Optical in USB for FPS'ing.
No more wrist mullarky when surfing, still Rail gun ace when FPS'ing.
Why do so many people seem unable to come to terms with the idea that using both is the best compromise?
People try a Trackball, try FPS/gaming, hate it and bin it without realising the trackball's strength is surfing etc not gaming.

Trackball is the only why to go, but not just any old trackball. One with a big ball like the Kensington expert mouse.

Rockhard: I'll agree, except gaming is also the strength of tbs, IMO. Of course this highly depends on the trackball, USB is a must and the proper ball type(my trackman marble+ is a thumb ball) make all the difference.

I've wanted to try a trackball for a while, and finally i have some extra cash lying around, what is the best (if it's not too expensive) or the best for quality vs price?

Thanks

Well I do use both kinds i have a logitech optical which is hooked to my KVM switch and my USB optical trackball explorer is hooked to my gaming rig which I use more often than the other. The only time I really use the logitech optical mouse is when im eating or a friend is over thats trackball retarded. Oh yea I still own your A$$ in quake3 instagib, how ever you spell it now UT or CS thats a different story

Some say that so many people use mice, that you need to get use to a trackball to enjoy it.

Personally, I have the luxury to use both.

I have a similar set-up: MS Trackball Explorer, MS Optical Mouse Explorer, and MS Optical Mouse Explorer Wireless. THIS is the best of all the worlds!!!

Wireless for sitting on the couch and surfing, Trackball for surfing on desk and playing games, Regular optical when I am tired of both.

This is probably true for those who haven't owned one for more than a week. The mouse has been so emphasized in the computing world that people haven't tried the alternatives. This is the reason why a trackball feels weird at first, but give it some time, and you'll like it too.

IMO trackballs that operate the index and middle fingers give better control than those which use the thumb.
