Now that the 7900s are officially launched, I think a lot of us would like to track the progress of our evga step-up applications.

I just now applied (at 9 Mar 2006 07:20:58 PST). Got this in mail so far:

We have received your request to Step-Up to the new 256-P2-N560-AX. However, due to the high demand regarding this product, it may take several weeks for your request to be processed. You will be notified via email when your Step-Up request will be ready for further
processing.

Looks like the standard canned response when a card is OOS.

Out of curiosity, which card are you upgrading from?

*Edit* Were you able to get eVGA's price on the card you are trying to stepup to?

I have a eVGA 256-P2-N516 Geforce 7800GT CO SE 256MB which I paid $300 for. What does that equate to at eVGA? Also, how are you people handling the lack of cross-shipping. I don't have another PCI-E card, so am I taking my rig out of commision for a couple of weeks while stuff goes both ways?

I am upgrading from 7800 GT CO SE (Bought for $310). And no, the step-up list doesn't have price for most of the high-end cards. But the evga site says that the standard 7900 GT is going for $299.

Assuming you bought the card from a reseller listed at evga, they'll give you the actual price (minus the tax + shipping charges). For now we don't need to send the card (I think we'll get another mail whenever our turn comes in the queue), but I may just take the hit of the cross-shipping days and just use my laptop for all those days.

Since you bought a 7800gt CO SE, are you asking to stepup to a regular 7900gt or a 7900gt CO?

I got my 7800gt co for about 265 from monarch two weeks ago and I'm not sure how the step up program works, would I have to pay the difference in msrp from the price I paid or how does it work?

A lot of us bought the 7800 from evga because of the lifetime warranty and the step-up program.

If evga supports it's step-up program through this 7800-7900 cycle, it'll get a lot of loyal customers for a long time.

Remember people just because you got a GT doesn't mean you have to get a GT again. It might be worth an extra $100 or so to move up to a GTX.

So evga makes you ship your current card to them before they send you the new one? That's a little nuts. They should just charge full price for the new card and then when you send the old one back (after receiving the new one) they just give you a credit for it on your credit card.

If I remember correctly, then currently they have only two options in the 'step-up to' drop-down: A 7900 GT and a 7900 GTX. I couldn't find any GT CO there :-(

Whatever you paid for your card is the credit that you're issued towards the stepup program. eVGA's suggested price doesn't enter into the equation. You just have to provide proof of the price you paid (i.e. your receipt or invoice). BTW, you have to apply for the stepup within 90 days after purchasing your original card and there's no way to extend that deadline.

As for the lack of cross-shipping, I guess I'll just have to take cold showers or, shivers, spend more time with the wife.

Hmmm. Looks like I'm gonna have to call them just to get prices on the CO and CO-Superclocked.

Interesting that they are letting you step up to a lower priced card (even if it is only $10). I thought that the FAQ specifically said that you'd have to step up to a more expensive card. Keep us updated on this.

I was concerned about the same. But I couldn't find any such statement.

From the FAQ page at http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp?switch=3

Q: How does the Step-Up? Program work?
A: Anytime with in the first 90 days after your original date of purchase you can step up your video card to a new card graphics card from our website at http://evga.com/products/ of greater value.

Like I said though, keep us updated. I still have a month (*edit* oops I mean 2 months) before my 90 days expires, so I'd like to keep my options open.

I'm still not sure about the whole 'for the same price' thing. However, eVGA reps have already posted in their forums that you can keep the free mobo and step-up the vid card without penalty.

<--joins Arkane13131 in an EVGA chant

When did you buy the combo? If you bought it between Feb 3 and Feb 28, you can just send in for the $20 rebate which will bring your price down to $10 less than the CO Superclocked. If you bought it in that time frame and can't find the rebate form, PM me your email address and I'll email it to you.
