OK, two things.
I have both systems, and like the both, so dont cry foul
A. NEITHER system is losing (in America). They are BOTH good, selling systems.
B. If I had a PS2 since 1999 or whenever it came out, I MIGHT want to trade it after three years of use. Plus, games can be found for 9.99 now almost anywhere.
C. Microsoft has so much money they don't need to worry about market share. Sony, on the other hand, is lacking in this department.
D. Almost EVERYONE who only owns one system is quite brainwashed. Don't slam microsoft.
A. WRONG!! Look at any gaming magazine that shows game sales data and it is very OBVIOUS who is losing. I get both EGM and Game Informer which list software sales ranking for all systems. XBOX only has four games in the top twenty. Gamecube has ONE....guess who owns the other 15 spots (including the #1)? This has been the case for a very long time now.
B. Why trade in something that works and has longevity and still has great games coming out for it?
C. Microsoft does have a lot of money. But they do worry about market share...they do have a board of directors and thousands of shareholders that care whether or not their "shares" are thrown away.
D. Wrong again. Just maybe the majority of people who own ONE system (PS2) researched them all and found out which one would give them the most bang for their buck...years later, they realized that they made a good decision.
I couldn't imagine ANYONE doing this deal! A PS2 AND 3 games for an already outdated XBOX?
Something is very wrong with this deal.

well I have to say, folks, that this is just weird. I don't think it's a great deal, but then, I already own all three systems, and I'm happy with each of them. I have a few comments to make.
PS2: I like a loto f the PS2's games, but like with PS1, FAR more of its games are simply garbage than there are of Quality. This is one of the areas where the Dreamcast *Excelled* so well: More games were *good* than bad. If only Sony could get this.
GC: It's a nice system with some very good games; like the old DC, it has more good games than bad, but the selection is small. There are enough good games coming, however, that I feel justified in keeping the GC, and after all is said and done, it *is* more powerful than PS2.
XBox: Like GC, there are fewer games but the games are of a better quality. Look at the likes of SPlinter Cell if you want to argue whether PS2 is even *close* to XBox in terms of raw horsepower. Now that the second generation of software is coming out and developers are mastering the 'Box, we're going to see this system pull steadily away from PS2 in terms of graphical presentation. The game quality is already there, the *value* is already there (system and 2 games for $199, WITH hard drive, WITH online capability, versus $199 for no games, no hard drive and no online..duh...)
My bet is that this Xmas XBox will outsell PS2 due simply to overall *value* of the package. In 2 years time, the only thing that Sony will be able to do to compete with Xbox in terms of quality games with insane graphics is going to be a PS3, and as was reported in an interview with one of the VP's for XBox recently, "Sony will not get ONE DAY on the shelf without XBox2 there to compete next time. Not ONE." Maintaining a 2 year lead is easy; taking the lead when you're in a fight from practically day one is much harder, as we've seen with GC and XBox duking it out over the last year.
All three systems have good games, but I'll tell you this: If it's available on any other system and I want it, I WON'T buy the SOny version. Why? Because of what Sony did to Bleem! Bleem was an honest company with a good product that they were completely within their legal rights to sell, and Sony crushed them through excessive and unreasonable litigation even though the courts ruled against them time and time again.
Personally, I'll enjoy what I can from them right now, but when it comes to it, I won't shed a tear when those bastards are trailing at a distant third.

How good of shape does the PS2 have to be in. Do they need all the cables and controller too? Thanks.

I got my PS2 the day it came out from Amazon.com and it cannot play DVD's anymore...It is now a $300 (launch price) ps1 / audio cd player . This deal sounds like a good way to get rid of my PS2 if it cannot be fixed for free (any info on this?). However, I don't have any ps2 games...Does anyone know which 3 PS2 games that I can buy for cheap? Thanks

If you wanna be a whiney fanboy, then take it to OT.
AUTiger doesn't deserve to have his thread crapped on.
As with ALL deals here in HD, if you aren't interested, then move on.
If you don't have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to add, then kindly shut your pie-hole! :|
It's a marketing program being run by EB, not Microsoft genius. If it was being run by MS they'd be doing it themselves. Can't you use at least half of your Sony fanboy brain and figure that out?
