Datek is a good company that charges cheaper commisions than most brokers. Regular stock trades are $9.99. Options (where you can make serious money, albeit on more risky gambles) are $9.99 plus $1.75 per contract. Not sure about Buy and Hold, but its very name makes it seem like a barebones broker that doesn't encourage or facillitate active trading. Speaking from past experiece, sometimes you want and need a responsive broker, which Datek does pretty good.

I think they're up to 3 times now. They are expensive if you do more holding than buying.

The other problem is you have almost no control over what price you get the stock at because it is only executed 3 times a day. Datek by far has the best service.

Why not Tradescape? Only $1.50 per 100 shares, and you can also have free Level II with $3000 minimum in your account. Sounds good to me.

Datek offers a fast excecution at reasonable fee.
Rjt.com is also good. You can't beat $5 a trade.
I use both.

Datek likes wants minimally active traders.
Datek announced:

I have been using ScotTrade for a while and very happy with the service... yes I don't get Level II access but I have a local office that I can go to if I have a prob. Also if the site is ever down you can call the trade in for free. You can also call a certain number of times a month for quotes. Works well for someone who is not necessarily at the comp. during trading hours.

Ameritrade did a Datek too, can't remember the fees, but same inactivity and minimum aggregate balance garbage. Buy and hold isn't for you if you want to sell when you want to sell. Another one to try is Financialcafe.com, last look it was $2.99 a trade, go check it out it's been a while since I've been there.
