what if 4 cars approach at same time, wouldn't that make everyone the RIGHT Of WAY?
and what about 2 car parallel each other, who's "right" then?

Then everyone has to turn around an go home...

I actually wrote a 10 page paper on this topic in school. That was pre-computer, so I'll spare you all the cut and past.
In a nut shell: Move forward in short jerky motions and do not make eye contact, guaranteed to make everyone else freeze.

You'll have to video this "jerky motion" of which you speak and youtube it or something.

From cop wife: You both have to stop, and the first one to stop is the first one to go. No different than if there were a stop sign there. If for some reason multiple cars stop at the same time, everyone must agree on an order in which to go (seriously). The person chosen to go first will be proceded by the driver on their right, and so on.

In Utah, an uncontrolled intersections is treated as if there was a yield sign.

Go to Lancaster.

I lived there and I can't really think of any.

A 4 way intersection with no stop signs or traffic lights? Never seen THAT before... sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

You folks must live sheltered lives. I can't think of any town I've ever lived in that controlled EVERY intersection...especially in residential neighborhoods. Sure, the main arterials should all have stop/yield signs and such, but dealing with uncontrolled intersections isn't rocket science.

My question is why isn't there a fucking stop sign there? Where i'm from, if you're coming to a 4-way intersection and you don't have a stop sign you assume the other guy does!

Great plan!

Can't wait for your "Help! I need a good lawyer and body shop!" thread.

Most residential areas I know of use main roads that have the right of way and side roads w/ stop signs. Most are T-Intersections.

And I don't think it is unfair to assume people have stop signs. Obviously drive with caution. But it is pretty hard to see what kind of signs a person on another street has. Are the back of stop signs even red?

I'd say stop signs, but you don't have to stop if nobody is coming.

Unfortunately, some people around here interpret a yield sign as saying "Everyone shall yield to You." Around my house, we have one freeway off ramp that has a yield sign at the end of it and most of the time it gets ugly.

I've seen and lived in both. Towns which require traffic lights or stop signs at every intersection are safer provided people obey the law. It is less confusing for people. If the signs did not help much then you would see less stop signs lol. The idea that a safer environment for the public is created by requiring stop signs isn't rocket science either.

We have some of these in my area. I usually just slow down and look before proceeding. At other times, it's really quite obvious which road has the right of way (there is a main road along with a smaller crossing road).

no, but they have this one distinct characteristic... that odd shape. you can tell most traffic signs by their shapes, which was one of the intents of making them those shapes...

i had to think hard to realize that almost every small intersection in my neighborhood is a 4 way uncontrolled intersection... i slow, and if cars are loser to going thru than i am ill stop for them. if it seems they are going to go thru regardless of me being closer, ill stop for them. personally, i like my truck and dont want to repaint it right now... ill cede to another driver if it keeps me on the road and scratch free.

yeah, i'm suprised to learn that there is suh a thing. thats just an accident waiting to happen (if it hasn't already, which seems unlikely).

wow, after reading the thread more, it seems this is very common. i don't drive though many residential neighborhoods, but the ones i do have at least 2 directions controlled.

We have tons of unmarked intersections out in the West (outside of California atleast). It's common to see one here. Always yield to the first person to approach, the person to the right, or the person going straight (if you meet someone head-on). If it's a T intersection you yield to the main (or straight) street. It's really not that hard. These type of intersections only exist on roads where traffic is very limited. The odds of you ever seeing more then 1 other car on these kind of streets is slim.

Nothing to do with $500k homes. Old areas have more uncontrolled intersections than suburbs anyways...

edit: I was actually implying that sheltered people that live in the 'burbs have never taken a drive through the ghetto.
