We aren't lazy, obviously we've just outsourced our train-pushing operations to India.

I just figured we weren't dumb enough to pull the emergency stop chain for no reason.

Do you actually LIVE in America?

Yep ... Pennsyltucky.

Ahh....right next to NewHampsizonaia, right?

Seriously.....9 out of 10 Americans are that stupid and then some. Don't get me wrong, I love this country and wouldn't really want to live anywhere else, but if this happened here the passengers wold just sit there and wait for a repair crew to come. I'm not saying Americans would never do what they did, just that we're not likely to because we actually have people in place who take care of that sorta thng quickly.

It is not that. The train operators afraid someone will sues if they ask the passengers for help. God forbid if someone sprain an ankle or broke a nail during the help out. Come to think of it, some one will sue the passenger that pull the emergency brake & the train company for not prevent such a thing to happen. i.e. design the rail where the train could stop in a neutral zone.

No.

If this happened in America, the train company would make sure everyone was locked in the train until they resolved the problem, for fear of lawsuits.

Funny you mention that.

That is exactly what happened to my ex-wfie and in 1996 for the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

We took the train to go to a venue which is what they encouraged. The train left the station and stopped dead just outside the station. They kept us locked up in the stiffling heat for 3 hours. We missed our venue and the Olympics would not refund our $300 tickets or give us tickets to another event.

We did what we were supposed to do and got screwed.

Happened to me too on the Los Angeles to Orange County MetroLink a few years ago. Some idiot walked infront of a train a few trains ahead of us. We were stuck in the train for about 2 hours, during the '03 NBA championships IIRC.

We were about 3/4 mile from the station and they wouldnt let us out due to lawsuits and "contaiminating the crimescene". One dude pleaded with the conductor to let him off since his backyard was next to our stopped train to no avail. He even had his wife flick the backward lights on and off to prove it was his house and he was going to just hop his backyard fence.

Heh, a friend of mine in India had her scooter break down. People moved her scooter to a small tea shop where there some dude who was a mechanic. Over a couple of 5 cent tea cups (made out of baked clay btw), he fixed up the scooter. Didn't accept a payment or pester her for a phone number. His reasoning "God wanted me to be here to help fix your scooter".

Last I know, ppl in America are willing to go out of their way to help push your car when it break down, help change your tire on the side of the road when you have a flat tire. I'm amazed sometimes how friendly in general a lot of Americans are, sounds like you are not one of them.

ive gotten a chopper on the road again without payment. guy broke down outside my apt complex (pre kids). pushed it over to my apt and figured out his main fuse had gone the wayside. took one off my bike and got him working. usually i have spares, but couldnt seem to find one, easiest way to get that guy home was to give mine. i got another at work the next day for mine, so no biggy. the guy was more surprised anyone even stopped to make sure he was ok than anything, and ended up bringing a 6er back that weekend and thanking me again.

cliffs: niceness isnt an "india" thing.
