I was on a train to NY and two days later, the train on that route derailed and 6,744 people died.

Only a handful or so were on the train, the rest were unrelated deaths in the US elsewhere that day, but it still freaked me out a little.

I didnt see it happen but right outside my town one derailed. Took them months to clean it up.

As a child in CA, trucker thought he could beat the train and than.... the light turned red. Got stuck in traffic and got dragged a good 100-200 feet or so. Luckly it hit the trailor.

I was on a cross-country Amtrack train when it hit a pickup truck. It felt like a minor little bump, then we stopped moving for about 7 hours. We went on without incident afterwards, no injuries and the train probably just needed a new coat of paint on the front.

Turns out some guy was robbing an industrial site and parked around back to avoid being seen. He was loading his pickup with everything he could get his hands on. It was a great idea, except for the fact that he was parked on the railroad tracks.

Train caught the tanker on the Westbound lane. Tanker was shoved across the media and lit off almost a dozen cars waiting to cross or trapped by the signal light.
Smoke was visible for 20+ miles( in Miami). Multiple deaths - people roasted in the Eastbound plus the tanker driver.

I was half block back on waiting eastbound at the intersection.

Tanker started across the tracks and a car cut in front of him preventing him from being able to clear the tracks.

In hindsight, he should have just pushed the car out of the way instead of hoping that the traffic would clear fast enough before the train arrived. There is debate that he started crossing when the lights were flashing; however that he was cut off was stated by multiple witnesses.

No, but I've helped clean up after a few. Several cranes usually needed to get locomotives and cars back on the track, assist in removing and replacing damaged rail, etc.

yep. my GP-18 caught the point of a bad turnout. rolling stock everywhere. the cleanup took minutes.
