i listen to drum and bass

same, straight up junglist since 1995.

I still dig the tech step and jump up but all about the liquid now. I just want to say that High Contrast did not invent that shit. The crew at Liquid Jungle Sky had many many liquid tracks and albums out in the mid 90s.

I've been since 1998. Any electronic genre is good with me, but I'm noticing trance is slowly losing my favorite spot. I think because it hasn't moved much for years.

House has also been a good one for me, and I've been noticing pop is nothing but house with even cheesier vocals, lately.

I used be a trance fanatic but I'm pretty burned out on the cookie cutter trance stuff that di.fm mostly plays. I still discover some awesome unique tracks now then though.

Heheh of course it wasn't high contrast

I am kinda all over the board save for jump up/clownstep

Let me sing some good old ones that always get the ladies going:

"It's a fine day, people out the window, painting their houses.. just for a short while."

"Do you think you're better off aloneee~?"

"I need a miracle, I need a miracle"

Old school trance fan and raver (and still going) since 1999, also a bedroom dj and vinyl collector.

Most of my former trance fan friends get burned out on trance and how cheesy and mainstream it is and delve into other genres of edm.

For the "oaky and tiesto ftw" post, i laugh at you and raise you a "david guetta" fuck you im famous song.

You are into vocal trance?!
crazy! I'm a huge trance fan...

Above and Beyond is the best stuff out there.
Tiesto is amazing but is getting overhyped and Oakenfold is a has-been.
Armin is becoming the new Tiesto and rightfully so...

Classic shit.

I haven't kept up with anything past ISOS4 or so.

I've never been a fan of any of them and honestly don't know how they got so huge. I'm a huge ATB fan, though.

Armin is a master of marketing.

First, his radio show.

I used to listen to A State of Trance in 2003 when it was 2 episodes, around like episode 50, and its grown to... 400 from there? It's developed a huge following.

Also, I've written him two fan emails and he's actually responded on his radio show.

In addition, he's a good producer, good remixer, and good dj imo although everyone has their own opinion and tastes.

I have heard him mess up a mix on ASOT when it used to be live, but that was years ago.

Above and Beyond have also had a long standing radio show, I even listened to the first episode of TATW back in December 2004.

They're also my absolute favorite producers hands down, I love their tracks and also love their label.

I just got home from work and watched this video.

I thought it was crappy as hell and not a good way to introduce someone to trance.
Short 30 second clips don't do any track justice, good or bad. You can't really hear the progression and art of production from short clips. Almost all were vocal tracks too, and while a large part of my favorite tracks are vocal tracks, you don't listen to trance tracks just because they have vocals, you listen to them because they're good.

Listening to the vocal trance selection on di.fm makes me puke D:

I love "Waiting" "Find Yourself" "Begging You" but when like 15 out of 20 tracks have vocals, that's excessive.

And finally... here's who i like. Check out some of the lesser known names if you want to listen to more mainstream uplifting trance that isn't just ARMIN FERRY TIESTO ABOVE AND BEYOND PVD

Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Ronski Speed, Robert Nickson, Thrillseekers, Solarstone, Sean Tyas, John O Callaghan, Kyau vs Albert, Daniel Kandi, Thomas Datt, Airwave, Super 8 & Tab, (Oliver) Smith & (Mark) Pledger, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Rank 1, Stoneface & Terminal, Aly & Fila, Greg Downey, Andy Blueman, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Bjorn Akesson, Mirco de Govia, Simon Patterson, Alex MORPH, Paul Van Dyk, BT. Vocalists - Justine Suissa, Aruna, Emma Hewitt

I was wondering if anyone on ATOT listens to Trance. This is my favorite genre of music.

Here is a collection of todays Top 20 Trance songs by Armada Music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwL1SLnWMh0

If you watched this video, and still don't like trance music, can you explain why?

Thanks and enjoy

No, I think my way was good. Introducing trance to your average music listener who only listens to a song for 3-4 minutes can be difficult. As the best trance songs are sometimes way over 6-8 minutes. Sometimes it can take your average listener a while for them to understand the 'progression'.

Now as I stated, these are Top 20. I didn't feel like going too much in depth here, I just wanted people to get a taste of what today's trance music is. Of course this video doesn't describe trance at its best.

BTW: you forgot Markus Schulz

Initially i was drawn into trance by vocal trance, but lately I have been branching out and noticed that some songs are better without vocals.

There was this one song by Sean Tyas ft Amanda - Time, which i had only heard the non vocal and became one of my favorites, just a while ago i heard the vocal version and it was horrible!

Nice. Good songs, I never have heard the vocal version of that song before. I think it was okay.

Here is another vocal vs non-vocal

Non-vocal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df3jmHARXKM

What do you think of this? I think the vocal is a bit better.

Above and Beyond do a radio show much like Armin...their TATW (Trance Around the World) sets are massive. If you can, download #301...there's 100 tracks and you can get a good idea for what producers you might like.

Anyone here a member at TMB - has electronic music radio shows/studio sessions/essential mixes/etc? I hadn't really listened to trance music until about 2001 when a friend of mine sent me Oakenfold's essential mix world tour from the late 90's which has one of my favorite essential mixes of all time - Home @ Space, Ibiza. In my opinion, Oakenfold has been in free fall mode the last 10 years.

I had about 280 of Armin van Buuren's ASOT mixes but went through and deleted 95% of them a year and a half ago because I needed space on my hard drive (and I didn't have time to listen to all of them more than once).

There are some tracks where vocals are added to the track as opposed to being produced with vocals in mind and they've been complete garbage.

One that comes to mind that MAY not be able to be found on youtube (I'm at work right now) is Plastic Boy (aka MIKE/Push) - Live Another Live back from 2003. There were vocals added and I wanted to throw up.

For some of the most beautiful tracks where the vocals make up the song, check out

Masters and Nickson - Out There (all time top 5 favorite song)
Chris Lake - Carry Me Away
Dash Berlin - Waiting

@mafia - you know, I totally forgot about how the typical pop music song is 3 to 3.5 minutes. How long is the crap played on the radio, 2-2.5 mins? I guess 30 seconds is a good intro for todays kids of short attention spans. When you consider full length dj mixable tracks, 6 minutes is kind of short too, some progressive progressive Planisphere tracks go well past 10 minutes and are an atmospheric progressive experience to listen to.

Also, RE: Markus Shulz, while I don't dislike him, I've never been a major fan of his DJing nor productions/remixing. Seen him at 3 raves and I never cared that much for his track selection. He's VERY popular in the USA, but... while I've liked some of his tracks, none of them have really "touched me."

two page thread on trance & not a single mention of oliver lieb/l.s.g...? /facepalm

trance became mostly cliched in the early 2000s. go listen to platipus or superstition label stuff from the 90s, not this tiesto bullshit. tiesto's like the britney spears of electronic music.
