Who all is going\has already gone this year? I went to the concert last night and it was yet another great show. Every time I go I am always surprised by something new they add to the show. I don't think there is a single piece of state equipment they have that that doesn't have at least three of the following:

Massive fucking LCD screen
Laser lights
Snow emitter
Spot light
Rotating lights
Fire
Fire ball
Fire jet
Fog Machine
Vertically extending performer platform
Horizontally extending platform
Telescoping platform
Spark emitter
Spark pinwheel
Firework launcher

Edited title due to heathens

My wife wants to go, but I have a feeling I'll get bored of it after 30mins or so.

Really thought this thread was going to be about a certain General and his Chicken. :'(

I do love "Christmas Jam", though

EDIT: This post was sort of halfway witty when the thread title was "TSO", now it's just sort of orphaned.

I went around 3-4 years ago. Fantastic experience.

I particularly enjoyed how much of an '80's scumbag rocker' the lead dude looked like (feather 80's hair, hair chest exposed underneath unbuttoned shirt, etc). Granted, things may have changed a bit since then!

Maybe during the first half of the show but I think it would be hard to be bored during the second half

No real change in the 80s rock look

They're fun.

I went last year just because they included one of my favorite metal singers (Russel Allen) and it looks like he's also on for this year.

Definitely a family focused affair though, less metal than I was hoping. It was strange seeing metal vocalists do Christmas music.

I've been to see them I think 4 times over the last 12 years or so. Did I hear right in that this is the last time they're doing this Christmas Eve set? I don't know if that means they'll stop doing the Xmas tour completely and fall back on their other classical music translations or just reinvent it as something different. It does seem like attendance to the shows drops off each time I see it.

They do put on a fun show, I agree.

That is because they started as Savatage the 80's Heavy Metal Band. Their music is still in regular rotation on my Ipod.

They are doing Christmas Attic instead of Christmas eve. Started doing that last year. Not a huge change though - new story some new songs but still plenty of their old ones

Excellent show, i would love to go see them every year, but life gets in the way. I have been 3-4 times and even though the songs were the same(this was before they changed it up a couple years ago) the stage/set was different so it felt like a different show each time. One of my all time favorite shows/bands.

Saw them last year. I wanted some of their typical hit songs, but instead, got a bizarre, suicidally depressing Christmas story... You couldn't hear the orchestra in any of the songs. It was shit. About 40 min in, I just decided to try and sleep through it. Good fucking god it was like 150 minutes long. Never again.

Just bought two tickets after reading the thread to this Friday's show. Tickets were pricey but for $150 you can't wrong on a top tier show.

Thanks for the Christmas Gift Idea.

Was TSO popular before the Home Alone movie featured their music?

Didn't realize TSO was in Home Alone...

I always confused TSO with Mannheim Steamroller in the 90s....and thought Mannheim was more popular during Christmas anyway.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhc2DSsDhG0

The older I got, it seemed TSO was more coveted and I more clearly understand the differences between the two. Mannheim was better background music in my opinion...but TSO has more lyrical listening music.

No bubble cannon? Forget it, not hardcore enough for me ;-)

I went once many years ago and I remember old people leaving because it wasn't what they expected. It was funny seeing elderly people in walkers strolling out complaining about the loudness.

Fantastic show for sure. We used to do it every year as a family. It got pretty repetitive as far as the story, songs, etc. One year my uncle scored front row seats and we ended up sitting next to Chris Caffrey's parents. They ended up giving my younger cousin a backstage pass for after the show. He ended up coming out and we all got to meet him. Pretty sweet. More recently I subbed a gig with a guitarist who is working with Alex Skolnick (private lessons in his Brooklyn apt) and mentioned if I ever want to take one to let him know. Turns out the guy is going out on tour with 'Wizards of Winter' which is essentially a bunch of old TSO guys who started their own thing. I'll be at the Dec 21st show @ Best Buy Theater if anyone is going

Just went to the show here in San Diego. It was our first time seeing them, now my wife wants to go every year. It was really well done, and the band is really tight. The West coast band has some new girl from the Czech R. They found her off youtube, she was amazing.

Instead of TSO I go to the BSO show each Christmas.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra

He and his big band put on a great show.

Went to a show a couple years back with the family and it was great. Frankly I could have done without the whole story thing, I just wanted them to shut up and play. Any time they were actually playing it was awesome.
